    Rye IPA Hops Advice?

I am making a rye IPA with lots of hops and rye (at least 25%). I have Chinook hops on hand and will definitely be using them for bittering, and I also definitely want to use some Amarillo for flavor/aroma. My question is: would you suggest flavoring exclusively with Amarillo, or would it be...

Why can't I just jar my yeast cake?

I have simply put yeast in jars and reused months later several times, always with great results.

    Sestos PID Temperature Controllers (D1S-VR-220)

Thanks mredge. The problem I am facing is that I am utterly clueless as to how to set the damn thing. I will take a look at the Auber instructions tonight and see if they help.

    Sestos PID Temperature Controllers (D1S-VR-220)

Davide, I'm trying to use a Sestos PID to do sous vide, but can't figure out the device at all. The instructions are basically worthless. Can you walk me through the setup process? I need it to turn my crock pot on when the temp is below the set value and off when above. Thanks.

    Licorice Stout

Hi all, I brewed a fairly big (1.075 OG) stout about 2 weeks ago. I added half a stick of licorice during the last 10 minutes of the boil, most of which dissolved. I just tasted it and detected little anise/licorice flavor. How should I go about adding more? Should I just drop the remaining...

Best IPA in Canton and Pittsburgh?

+1 for Fat Head's Headhunter IPA, one of the finest IPAs I've ever had. East End Brewing's Big Hop is fairly easy to find on tap in Pittsburgh and quite solid, but they don't bottle. There's also a new brewery called Full Pint; their Chinookie IPA is highly variable, ranging from mediocre to...

    Humboldt Hop Rod

I made a few modifications to this recipe (different hops, zest of 2 grapefruits in boil) and brewed it in late September. It's been in bottles for 3 weeks now and is absolutely fantastic - easily the best beer I've ever brewed. This is on the same level as the best commercial IIPAs. Doesn't...

Strongly-peated strongly-oaked strong scotch ale (SPSOSSA)

Brewed this in June, bottled in September. Took my first taste yesterday - WOW. This is at least as good as any commercial wee heavy I've ever had. Thanks for the recipe.
