Will adding Gypsum improve the Hop character in my beers?

Are we definitely sure this is 60%, it doesn’t give a strength on the pack.

Will adding Gypsum improve the Hop character in my beers?

Yeah the guy in the shop was a little clueless to be honest so I thought we’ll it’s only £2 and I’m sure the internet will know!.. Oh well Gypsum experiment first and I’ll order some solution for next time.

Will adding Gypsum improve the Hop character in my beers?

Hey @Yooper. I had to make an emergency trip to the LHBS ready for my brew day so decided to pick up some lactic acid for the PH adjustment. I was expecting a solution but I got lactic acid powder.. not really sure what to do with it in power form - any of ideas?..

    What temperature to serve IPA?

This settles it, I’ll set to 10°C and try it out.

    What temperature to serve IPA?

I noticed when drinking my latest brew (Maris Otter & Mosiac Pale) that it got nicer as it got warmer. Like noticeably better in flavour, aroma, mouthfeel and it got me wondering am I serving it too cold? What temperature does everyone go for? I think my fridge it at 4°C.

Will adding Gypsum improve the Hop character in my beers?

Thanks. I just tried the Brewer's Friend and calcuator and this felt a little easier to handle than the Bru'nwater one. I'll go with the gypsum for this next batch and then add the pH adjustment step on the next one, this way I should be able to have a better idea of the difference they make to...

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

Thanks for your help - I've took your advice and put the bottles in a plastic box with lid lined with thermawrap so they can stay warm, dark and safe! My issue with hyrometers was always the waste as I only do small batches but I certainly don't want bottle bombs so have just ordered a...

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

Managed to get one from my step dad - so 1.012? Am I safe?! Btw I tried the sample and it doesnt taste as sweet as I first thought so maybe there was some residual sugars at the bottom of the bucket after all.

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

Yeah this has been in the back of my mind.. sugar mixed in boiled water and cooled, added to bottling bucket then syphon the beer into that so it should be well mixed. I'll see if I can get one from a friend - what temperature does it need to be to test the gravity?

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

Ok so confession time... I don't do gravity readings... but it bubbled regularly for the first few days and then slowed down to a stop. Today was day 10 in the primary.

Beer sickly sweet after priming and bottling - is this normal?

Hi, I primed and bottled my Amarillo/Chinook APA just now and decided to try the leftovers I couldnt get in the bottle and it was sickly sweet! Now I realise I've just added 50g of sugar but as it was to 7 litres of beer I assumed this wouldn't be a noticeable as it was! I assume that this...

Will adding Gypsum improve the Hop character in my beers?

I have moved away from dry hopping and going for bigger hop stands to avoid having to open the fementer during fermentation. I then do a very careful transfer into bottling bucket with priming sugar solution and bottle with a wand, capping after every one. As above, I've moved to bigger hop...

Will adding Gypsum improve the Hop character in my beers?

Hi all. I'm just started drinking my 4th brew which was a SMaSH with Maris Otter and Mosaic. I'm really happy with the results after having to toss my 3rd batch for some really off-medinal flavours. A mix of building a fermentation chamber to keep my temps level and using camden tablets seems...

    Hop recommendations wanted

Hi All, I'm about to put in an order of grains, yeast and hops and I can't decide on which hops I want to try out. I'm 5 brews in, first 2 were ok, 3rd went down the drain but I seem to have nailed it with the 4th (single hop Mosaic Pale) and 5th (Amarillo/Chinook APA). So far I've mainly...

    How to find a recipe?

Brew day was today so should just be about ready for New Years! I actually missed the 76° mark and ended up doing the whirlpool at 65°. Sure it’ll be fine..that’s what you get when your trying to brew and keep a 3 year old entertained! I’ll keep you posted.

    How to find a recipe?

Hey @FloppyKnockers , great recommendation on the Maris Mosaic SMaSH, ended up drinking the warm, flat dregs left over after bottling yesterday and tasted SO good! Decided to try your 2nd recommendation as you're 1/1! Any recommendations on the malt balance/hop schedule? I've read Chinook...

    Whirlpool addition only?

Hi all, I'm thinking of my next beer recipe and want to go for a nice tropical low IBU sessionable pale. Might try additon a touch of flaked wheat/oat. I'm just wondering what the effect would be if I only did a whirlpool additon at around 76C, no bittering addition, no dry hop. I have some...

How does this recipe look for my first experiment with oats?

Thanks for the tips - my wife makes granola so we have a lot of rolled oats in the house which saves a trip to find a LHBS. I'll up my quantitiy to get the full experience! I've read I may need to do a separate mash for the oats - is that right/neccessary?

How does this recipe look for my first experiment with oats?

Hi all. I've created a recipe for the first time and just looking for some feedback as it's my first time using flaked oats and putting hops together. I'm trying to create something that's sessionable but with some decent body to it, low IBU and a nice tropical/citrus flavour. The 2nd...
