50 lb Sack of Briess 2 Row $49.99 with free shipping

This must have been a one-day sale. Because I went there and the grain way $49.99 and the shipping was $46... making it some of the most expensive.

Tips you would like to have known when you first started brewing?

A good amount of people go through the stages of brewing: 1) Mr Beer or similar, 2) Extract Brewing, 3) Partial Mash, 4) Turkey fryer, 5) Grainfather or other coffee urn style All-in-one units and finally 6) a top-notch, top quality Brewing system (I wont mention names in order to eliminate...

    Very confusing

I have tried using Bru'n Water and it just seems heavy handed on the salts and is way more complicated than it needs to be. I created a spreadsheet based on John Palmer's book How to Brew. In the book he tells you what each gram of the salts contribute. Funny thing is, my spreadsheet comes out...

Time for a New All-In-One Brewing System

Yeah Steven is pretty cool. He is busy for sure and is available for chat. If you don't catch him during the day, the chat is automatically sent to his email and usually there is a response by 10-11 AM the next day..

Time for a New All-In-One Brewing System

I went with a recipe I would call a Frankenbier (leftover ingredients I had around the house already) just to get my feet wet. I used 16 pounds of grain 4 ounces of hops. I could have done more but was not trying to max out the system, i just want to see how everything went together. I was...

Time for a New All-In-One Brewing System

Good deal. Because everything is modular and using the 1.5" Tri-clamps, it is very versatile. You can use the controller, temp gauges, heaters, and accessories on a 10 gallon kettle or a 20 gallon kettle.

Time for a New All-In-One Brewing System

I pulled the trigger on the Unibrau V3 220v 5500w 10 gallon unit right before Black Friday. This unit is a great choice for me... Phenomenal product and customer service... You can chat with the owner/developer directly. I have use it and cannot be happier.. From a former Grainfather user.

Time for a New All-In-One Brewing System

I had two Grainfathers (G30) and both failed me.You need to look at the Unibrau V3 (www.brausuppy.com) I got mine and wow....talk about over-delivering. The unit is top notch. I have the 10 Gallon 220v 5500w and I was blown away. The unit is modular so you can do just about anything you want to.

Aeration System Introducing lead and Lead Compounds into wort

Proposition 65 is and always has been a joke. This is a good intentioned law that went very bad...That sticker is on EVERYTHING. And I do mean everything like cars, homes, RO systems, Food, transportation, anything aerosol, computers, printers, TVs, aroma therapy, desks, lawnmowers, heaters...

How long do YOU let your yeast starters ferment?

My rule of thumb is... when the yeast has a krausen and it goes back into the slurry, then I add 4-6 hrs. Not all yeast will have a krausen so, it that case, I go 48 hrs and never had a problem. I also overbuild every time so I keep my yeast bank fresh and if I have any issues I just add more...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you have 10 kegs and 4 fermenter filled and you are still shopping Black Friday sales on ingredients...

    Is my amber ale bad.

Looks normal. Probably your yeast yo are using. What yeast are you using? Its not that the yeast are bad or anything is wrong but, some yeast are just like that. Nothing to worry about.

    Why I do secondary fermentation

That is EXACTLY our point. Geesh!!

    Why I do secondary fermentation

Maybe you should read the post I responded to before being snarky. or use the ABC rule.

    Why I do secondary fermentation

Well said. I once was into photography and bought $8,000 for the high end camera (only the best) and various lenses.. The end result was I still sucked at photography. The equipment does not make the brewer, or photographer.

    Why I do secondary fermentation

Do what works for you. Over the thousands of years that humans have been brewing, we have tried many things that work for some and not others and we still have not perfected that one procedure that works for everyone. What I have learned, in this particular group, is that if "some" people...

    Old guy returns to brewing?

I'll have to look at BF again. I chose BS because, at the time, I found it to be better all around and a nicer User interface...
