    ITC1000F Failed?

Hi folks. I've had an Inkbird ITC1000F on a wine fridge for controlling fermentation temps for a few years. Brewing Yooper's Oatmeal Stout today and while I'm waiting for the mash to complete I started the rest of my prep, incl firing up the wine fridge. My temp controller had nothing in the...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I’m taking my third (and fourth!) crack at this one after buying ingredients today. I wanted to get above 4.2% (my last batch) so I added what turns out to be too much grain to the bill. Beersmith says 6.5% but we will see. Maybe I’ll have an imperial blonde at the end of this hehe

    Dry hopping in keg cold

Hi all, I know this is an old thread but it matches what I am doing right now. I have an ounce of Cascade in a room temp keg right now. It’s in a mesh bag tied to floss which is sticking out the keg lid seal. It’s been there 24 hrs so far and is holding enough pressure to make a noise if I pull...

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

Just had a sample of mine today after a week in the keg and it’s fantastic. Thanks BierMuncher, this and your blonde have both been hits in my relatively recent (2 Centennial Blondes/2 Jamils Pilsner and a Cerveza gong show before this) all grain career. I messed my water volumes up and wound up...

    WLP940 Substitute

Well something for making starters anyway. Haven’t done the research yet. Can you tell? :)

    WLP940 Substitute

Thanks all. Very helpful advice. I need to get/make a stir plate eventually

    WLP940 Substitute

Ah good call on the silicone. Those Oeteker clamps are awesome but that’s good insurance, thanks I might do that too.

    WLP940 Substitute

Well it’s in the fridge fermenting now so we will see what Frankenstein thing I’ve created. A side question if anyone has a immersion chiller - mine had what I think was plain old beer line on it and it’s been a nightmare, leaking/spraying various amounts of tap water into 3 of my brews. Today...

    WLP940 Substitute

Thanks folks. I went with Wyeast 2007. I’d rather not start with starters just yet.

    WLP940 Substitute

I’m pretty well set up for temp control yes. Also (and this isn’t to argue but to just say yes I’ve done lagers) I made Jamils Pilsner a few weeks back with its required Wyeast 2001. That was the first AG lager I’ve made, but I’ve made 2-3 lagers with rehydrated dry S-23 back when I was doing...

    WLP940 Substitute

Hi there, after buying grain and hops from my LHBS their expected White Labs order hasn’t arrived this week. I’m planning on brewing this recipe this weekend: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/mexican-lager.254955 But I can’t get any WLP940. Based on the ingredients is there anything...

First BIAB, conversion of LHBS recipe questions

Thanks all. I've gotten good at notes, until now just in regards to temps and stuff since I've only done pre made wort kits from festabrew.

First BIAB, conversion of LHBS recipe questions

Got it thanks, thanks for the measuring hint I'll do that. No need for apologies, I do tend to overprepare a bit and decided to use the time waiting for my weekend brew day reading up so that created even more uncertainty heh. At the start of all this the only unknown that worried me was the...

First BIAB, conversion of LHBS recipe questions

Thanks for that. I have a habit of trying to overprepare for things as part of a "don't screw this up" sort of deal. I'll definitely be more relaxed from my second brew on. I'm just thankful I already have fermenting and kegging down pat or I'd be completely bonkers trying to learn those now too!

Ok point taken, I'll try it out thanks.

First BIAB, conversion of LHBS recipe questions

Yup. That woulda made more sense. Crap! At least I'm on electric for now with unlimited usable heat, plus there's a chiller, propane burner and proper kettle on Christmas list. Oh just got the shipping notice for refractometer like 20 min ago. So (final answer this time!): I ran everything...

First BIAB, conversion of LHBS recipe questions

Hi again! Did my boil test this evening with plain tap water. I covered the pot and cranked the stove up, then uncovered and reduced the heat when it reached a boil so it was a slight bubbling (no cauldron :)) for 60 minutes. I had originally put 2 gal (7.57L) into the pot, and my ending water...

First BIAB, conversion of LHBS recipe questions

Hahah ok thanks for that. Sorry for the confusion, I was gonna make it point form of their #s vs my conversion attempt #s but didn't. Two more points here - I have a refractometer on the way, and tonight after work I'm going to (lightly) boil a gallon or two of water and see how much is actually...

First BIAB, conversion of LHBS recipe questions

Hello, I’m about to do my first BIAB, an American IPA from the name on the printout my shop gave me, and since its not a BIAB recipe I’m looking for confirmation that I’ve converted it ok. Full disclosure here, I also posted this to a local forum where I live but there’s a bit more traffic here...
