Wow. I just brewed my first Belgian ale a few days ago and have seen nothing crazy with 3787. Actually not seeing much at all. I made a starter, oxygenated the wort with pure O2, and pitched at a good temperature. It was only a 3-gal batch and I used a 1.5L starter, so I would have expected...

I just bottled a smaller 2-gallon batch and it tastes amazing right out of the fermenter! Can’t wait until those bottles are ready.

The LHBS owner said he would replace the yeast for free. He doesn't have the same Omega yeast in stock but he has some fresh Wyeast 3787 that will work. I think I will take the safe route and get the fresh 3787. But I'll keep going on this first starter and see what happens.

This morning it was smelling slightly "yeasty" so maybe something is happening after 36 hours. Just in case I'll order more Belgian yeast. If I don't need it for this brew I can always do another Belgian in a few weeks. I love Belgian ales and don't mind having plenty around!

I can only make out one date on the package: 06-17-2017. I think it says MFD next to that, I assume that’s the manufacture date.

No smell of yeast at this point. All I smell is the wort. My fault for buying this yeast without paying attention to the date. The LHBS shouldn’t be selling 6 month old yeast.

Yesterday I pitched yeast into my first yeast starter. I used Omega Belgian Ale W which may be no good as it’s 6 months old. 24 hours later nothing is happening. Should I see anything at this point? I was planning on stepping it up again on Thursday.

That's what I did and I prefer it that way. There is one setting for subtitles and another setting for audio. So far the show seems like a German version of Stranger Things.

Looks pretty good. I prefer lower IBU's in a stout but that's totally up to you. I agree with McKnuckle that some flaked oats might help.

^This. I think pale chocolate would be great. What hops? EKG or Fuggles would be good, keep the IBU's on the low side.

I do smaller batches so what I do is put a spaghetti strainer under the bag while I'm holding it up, set the strainer on top of the pot, then fire the burner. While it's heating I put on silicone gloves and start squeezing the bag.

If you go under "Tools" then "Quick Water Requirements" you'll see the actual calculations. Looks like you need 6.99 gallons preboil. The boil size field is manually entered and I usually go back and adjust that after checking the quick water requirements.

Brewed a 2.5 gallon batch of Yooper’s Oatmeal Stout. Only my 2nd all-grain BIAB brew and man, it smelled good! Can’t wait for this one to be ready.
