    Failed 5 Gallon Ale Cider

Ah yes I see that now. Disregard what I said. But now I'm curious why the yeast was pitched into hot cider. I've only made hard cider once, but when I did it, the only thing I heated was the brown sugar in water. After that I cooled it, added it to the jug (1 gallon batch), and directly pitched...

    Failed 5 Gallon Ale Cider

The reason your star-san was sucked into your fermentor, was that it was 100*F when you sealed it up. When the wort cooled to room temperature it created negative pressure, sucking your star-san in.

Viability of Home Nano/Micro Brewey (Legal-wise, not Financialy)

The article and subsequent sections that I posted in the body of the original post are the actual municipal codes that determine what activities can, and can not take place on the property, according to it's zoning designation, which is RE-10 (Residential Estate - ~10 acres). I thought I had...

Viability of Home Nano/Micro Brewey (Legal-wise, not Financialy)

Hey guys, So I know the dream of opening your own brewery is one that most people who have gone down the rabbit hole of brewing has at least once thought about. However, as I'm still young (first quarter century) at this point I'm not yet worried about where I'm gonna get the money for any...

    Considering moving to All-grain

If you go with a round drink cooler mash-tun, just get the 10 gallon, theres no reason not to and you will end up needing a 10 gallon mash tun for a 5 gallon batch. I guess that kinda goes for all the equipment. Get a little bigger than you think you'll need. I like your idea of reusing...

    Pliny the Elder Clone

Awesome thank you for clarifying the differences in the two. I think I'll stick with the corn sugar as like you said, the beer is all about the hops, which makes sense since the grain bill is pretty basic. Thank you!

    Pliny the Elder Clone

Hello all, So a few months ago I brewed a PtE Clone à la more beer's website. It turned out excellent. So now I'd like to brew it again, but since I now have the recipe I'm going to get the ingredients from my organic lhbs. The recipe calls for a late addition of corn sugar in the boil. So...

Rust on brand-new SS pots? HELP!

I cant help but wonder if a thorough cleaning with BKF before hand would have prevented this issue. Don't most stainless brewing products give instructions on how to clean any residue from the manufacturing process?

    Did moving fermenter induce fermentation?

On 11/6 I brewed a Pliny the elder clone that I purchased online. After about three weeks (11/27) the fermenter had to be moved for the holiday (it was in an empty room, but it was about to have people in it). I did not notice any active fermentation at this time (though the first week was...

Most efficient no rush keg carbing

I like the sound of that. Do I need to worry about the seal coming undone as it warms up, or is it literally like a big bottle (as long as I make sure the keg is leak free going into the kegerator)? I have fairly new o-rings (poppets are original) and clean and lube them regularly, also I seal...

Most efficient no rush keg carbing

Didn't think about that aspect, makes total sense. My goal is to have these two kegs carbonated, and ready to drink at the same time, even though their brew dates are ~2 weeks apart. I can't have both kegs at serving temp the whole time at the same time. I'm striving for as little consumption...

Most efficient no rush keg carbing

Heres the scoop, I have 5 gallons of pale ale that has been in primary for a little over two weeks. I want to keg it within the next few days, and want to know what the most efficient way to carbonate it within the next month is. Also, this week I plan on brewing a red ale, and also...

No Bottling Bucket - Coleman? Hand Pump?

About using an igloo type rectangle cooler as a bottling bucket. I had a ~10 gallon one that I converted into a MLT/HLT and I used the spigot that came with it on a DIY bottling bucket (5 gallon food safe bucket with a hole drilled in it). The standard tubing that I use with my auto siphon fit...

    New to all this.

What you want to be looking for is krausen: It will look something like that, though not necessarily exactly like that. It will rise and eventually fall back. When you think its done, or after roughly two weeks, take hydrometer readings a couple days apart. If it does not change it has...

    only one style to brew.....

Haha, my first thought was pale ale as well. Can be consumed all day, and all night in proper quantities. That, combined with a healthy dose of a member of the cannabaceae family....hops, of course. (What were you thinking?:D)

Bayou Classic SQ14: Then and now (What happened?)

I thought about that, but I did try the new burner with the old 10 psi reg. I believe it may have to do with the two varying styles of air manifolds, but the new burner did not produce the quality of flame that the old did with the same psi reg. The air manifold that has the two screws allows...

Bayou Classic SQ14: Then and now (What happened?)

Hmmm... I wonder if they have different factories, and if your lucky you get a unit produced by a more experienced worker, in a better facility? Or do they just assemble it with what ever spare parts they have lying around? Has anyone seen these same things to be true with other models of the...
