    Time to become a man...

Something will go wrong....count on it... and RDWHAHB. It took me 5 AG's batches before I felt like I was on top of things. Also, take careful notes of volumes and gravity readings along the way. They will help you figure out what went wrong later. Did you calibrate your kettle with a...

    Measuring Oats by volume

I don't have a scale, but need to measure out 3/4 lb of Oats (instant variety). Does anyone have a ball park idea of how many Cup(s) that might be? thanks :mug:

    wheat malt starter?

I have been recently increasing my batch volumes in order to collect extra wort for use as starters. Is it ok to use a wheat malt starter for a non wheat beer? thanks :mug:

    Post Primary temp requirements

Thanks everybody for the quick response. I'm really pumped about this batch, my gravity sample (4 days in to primary) tasted great. I never take readings that soon, but the fermentation was really explosive (had blow hose thankfully) and I couldn't resist. It was already down to 1.014. :mug:

    Post Primary temp requirements

First, let me say thanks for all the advice I have found on this board. I have been brewing for about 6 mos and would be no where without this board. I did a search on this topic and found some info, but would like to get some clarification. I have a Hefe in primary at 62 deg F. It is...

    PM Oatmeal Stout

I have been tapping into my Samual Smith's Oatmeat Stout clone for about a week now and seriously can't believe how good it is. I got the reciept out of Beer Clones. I also used Death Brewers stovetop PM method!!! As I type I am tasting my brew side by side with the original. It is very...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Ok, sorry if this is a redundant question, but I read through this entire thread and I am still missing something. How big a starter do you use when using your washed yeast? Mr Malty only gives you starter sizes when using White Labs or Wyeast. He assumes that if you are using slurry you...

    My stomach hurts!!

Just thought I would follow up and close off this thread for any other newcomers. I am happy to say, that since starting this thread I have had no more ill effects from my homebrew. At the end of the day, I think I was being a bit sloppy during my pour into the glass. I started paying more...

    Anybody making anything on Thanksgiving?

My LHBS pulled it together for me, but I think it came out of the "Clone Brews" book. The sample I tasted at bottling time was very encouraging.

    Anybody making anything on Thanksgiving?

Will be kicking off my 3rd batch on Friday. A Paulaner style Hefe (Extract + Grains). Will also be taking my first taste of my Fat Tire clone. :drunk: :ban: Can't wait!! Happy Turkey Day All!!! :mug:

    Checking Gravity

Somewhere I saw a U-tube video where a guy took his initial reading (after pitching the yeast), but instead of dumping the sample he saved it in an extra beer bottle. Whenever he wanted to check his progress, he simply poured the sample from the bottle back into the flask and took another...

    Blow-off tube question

New here as well, but the larger tube is used to ensure that it doesn't get clogged up. Once clogged, then you got a real (and messy) problem. I used a Coppers kit on my first batch with a 6.5 gal bucket and had to switch from an air lock to a blow off tube on day 3 due to all the crud...

    My stomach hurts!!

:( I read a couple of post about yeast in suspension and green beer. I am guessing this is my problem as well. Will it "pass" with time? this is my first batch (Coopers canned extract + DME): 7 days in primary 6 days in secondary 13 days in bottle I open one after 7 days cause I...

My primary bucket smells like green beer....

Looking for some cleaning tips. I moved my first batch from primary to secondary, but cannot get rid of the green beer smell from the plastic bucket. I used regular dishwashing liquid first, then moved on to letting it sit overnight full of Oxyclean (maybe not a strong enough mixture??). I...

    New guy from TX

What is up people! Thought I better follow the rules and put my first post here. Today I purchase my brewing kit (two stage w/ glass carboy). I am in the DFW area so I was able to drive to HomeBrew Headquarters and skip the shipping.:rockin: Anyway, I resisted the temptation of jumping...
