    Re-use yeast for imperial stout

Interesting idea. You wash it with sterile water first?

    Re-use yeast for imperial stout

Brewed a 1.064 brown ale with WY1450. Was thinking of re-using the yeast at the bottom of the fermentor for an imperial stout. I never re-use yeast anymore so I’m a little worried/concerned. What method will be safest to get no off-flavors? Wash, no wash, swirl in dregs of beer and pour in...

Hop filtration, options other than spiders for larger batches?

I think it has a guarantee too. Try it with a hop bomb batch and with a low hopped beer and see if u like it. There is some waste but it lets you get most wort out and the wort only has finer particles in it. Obviously some small particles will get through but it should work great with plate...

Hop Stopper v1 also sucked. v2 is very good

Hop filtration, options other than spiders for larger batches?

Hop STOPPER, not blocker. The Hop Blocker was a Blichmann product that didn’t work well.

Freezer relay - fix your dead freezer

I’ve now fixed two freezers just by replacing the compressor overload relay. Try it before junking your freezer if it stops working!

Raising pH (lowering acidity) with precipitated chalk, do I even need to?

I use pickling lime to up the pH in brewing. Never seen apple juice that low!

    Boil-off Rate

Found this at BYO: https://byo.com/article/boiling-advanced-brewing/ "The amount of evaporation varies with the size and geometry of the kettle, the surface area exposed to the air, the intensity of the heat source and to a lesser extent other variables such as the ambient temperature...

    Boil-off Rate

So, the boil off rate as a percentage or gallons/hr should be the same whether you are doing a 5, 10 or 15 gallon batch in a 20 gallon kettle? That seems to mean that if I am getting 8% boil off at X% PID power for 15 gallons that I could use X/3% power for 5 gallons or X*2/3 for 10 gallons to...
