Free beer for Massholes and New Yorkers in the Albany area

If it's the same guy the owns the Troy store I think they're doing the same thing there.

That has to be more than an hour drive even from where you are. My brother in law is in Duanesburg right near Troy and that's a long drive from the Mass border. Hope that's a good shop.

He didn't say anything to me about $40 bags of Briess! I might have to stop by this week to see if there are any of those left.

    Long Rhizomes

Good advice, thanks. I think I'll do that.

I've been asked to call ahead by the folks in West Boylston and in Marlboro, so nothing different there. You mean Troy as in Troy NH? If so that would be a much shorter drive.

Just about as far as I'm driving now. How are they?

    Long Rhizomes

I'm hoping to have them in the ground on Sat. The snow is off the yard now with the rain we've been having so with luck I'll have 6 inches of thawed ground by then.

Free beer for Massholes and New Yorkers in the Albany area

Up front disclaimer, outside of these folks being my LHBS and generally good guys, I’m in no way affiliated with them. I just signed up on Sunday and they only had 5 names so I thought I’d post this here since I know there are a lot of Massholes on this site. The Homebrew Emporium in West...

This hobby is hard work! (or I'm just old)

I find working outside as much as possible helps me to get through the cleanup steps much faster. I'm not worried about spills and what mess I'm making out of the kitchen if I can just hose off the table when I'm done. Otherwise, what they said. :)

    Old Oil Bottles

Sorry, forgot to mention they're made of glass. They look like mini carboys.

    Old Oil Bottles

I picked up a couple 2 gallon jugs today at a yard sale. From what I can tell they were most likely used to store kerosene a long time back but now are just covered in mud. I grabbed them because they were only asking a couple bucks but I’m hesitant to use them. My question is can these be...

Cool beans. I'll go with vertical then. Thanks all!

    Long Rhizomes

That’s what I did for now but it’s only just under the dirt on the top. Plus, everything I read about it says I should plant it horizontally. These are the first I’ve done so I haven’t even thought about straying from the directions yet. Have you had any luck with that?

    Long Rhizomes

I did some searching but didn’t find anything on this (a first for me on this board). If I missed a thread please let me know. Just got my rhizomes in and I’m planting in pots inside since the ground at my house is still frozen where I’m going to plant. One of the rhizomes is too long for...

    Cheap brewing

Doesn’t have to be beer either. Dandelion wine, ciders from concentrate, berry wine from what grows outside your house are all very cheap and done in small batches on the stove.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

My LHBS was a shy on the corn by a pound so I doubled up on the rice. Didn’t use rice hulls, won’t make that mistake again. I’ve got another week before the keg and I’m curious to see how it comes out.

Noobie mistake of not taking good notes

They just have 9 @ $1.50, nothing useful there. I don't have beersmith yet but that's next on the list. Right now everything goes on printer paper and into a 3 ring binder. Don't have a brew station as such, I do my mash in the kitchen and move outside for the boil and cool down, then move...
