    Coopers lagering

Actually, it specifically says this kit is enclosed with a TRUE lager strain and may produce off smells like rotten eggs while fermenting. So in this case what do you reccomend I do, keep it at 21c, or go for 13+ trying to to exceed 20+ ?

    Dead guy and Hobgoblin

I still cant believe the smell that is coming from my fermentor, its almost like exactly hobgoblin and I used mostly malt extract.... I think the addition of cascades will make the beer even better, although since I boiled them im not getting much flavour the aroma is coming from the fuggles I...

    Coopers lagering

The instruction say to ferment on the low end of the reccomended temperatures (21 - 27c), It also mentions it can ferment as low as 13c. Would it be beneficial if I could keep the temperatures as low as posssible but within range of 13c ? Could it possibly result in a poor product/off...

    Beer and the common cold?

lol yeah come to think of it ive read once that tannins (esophogal cancer), white flour/sugar increases risk, MSG, red and white meat.....common radiation(cell phones), some sweeteners....list goes on. I think it might be shorter list if you mention what doesnt give cancer... Oxygen...

    Beer and the common cold?

Beer kills/prevents cancer ? Ive done a search, and suprisingly I got opposite results......although it doesnt look like its been "proven", alot of places seem to say that even moderate alcohol consumption increases risk of cancer! I wish it wouldnt be so harmful, but out of all the alcohols out...

    1 gallon jugs

I recently found a gold mine of glass 1 gallon jugs. There was about 20 of them, I grabbed at least 8. I noticed later on that some had a label containing some kind of "acid", another bunch had labels but ripped/decayed away. I notice on the bottom of each jug is an etching of the number...

    Dead guy and Hobgoblin

Yeah well from not using malto-dextrin, and styrian goldings, we'll see what i'll end up with. Im sure itl taste just fine, but definitly not a clone. I used 75g carastan, 45g chocolate and 1700 grams of llme. Hops were cascades 60 min 1/2oz, perle 10grams 30mins, fuggles 10grams 10mins.
  14. S

    Dead guy and Hobgoblin

Well I made some major changes, because I didnt buy as many hops and couldnt get the goldings.....at worst ill have a beer that tried to be a hobgoblin but didnt make it ;) I made it lighter (alcohol), and used cascade hops 60min, 30min perle hops, and fuggles for aroma. I think its last 10...

    Dead guy and Hobgoblin

    Dead guy and Hobgoblin

Well, im not sure if I should just scrap this whole project, because im gonna have to do it again anyway!! There was no label but carastan on the pail I was weighing my grain in. The recipe calls for : Steeped 0.17 kg Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 0.15 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0...

    Dead guy and Hobgoblin

So I guess ill follow the 30 minute "steep" then. Carastan is another name for caramel, A few have told me this. The hobgoblin was a great beer, reminds me of a richards red, although its been awhile since ive had one.

    Hmm something wrong

A few people said that it might have been the lee's producing a sense of body, another contribution would be co2, and the residual sweetness.
  19. S

    Dead guy and Hobgoblin

Ok the recipe calls for chocolate, cara-pils/dextrine, and crystal/caramel. I got carastan, and im not sure what to substitute for the carapils!! Munich ? Or wheat malt? Mix of the two ? In the extract version recipe it doesnt mention using base malt "mashing" at all, just steeping for...

    Coopers yeast

Stick with coopers yeast, if your that advanced in brewing you should be formulating your own recipes & yeasts of your choice. Each one of their kits has a different type of yeast specifically to meet the style! Check the best before date on the can, only if its past that date you might wanna...
