    Spike Flex Plus Owners

I just picked up a flex plus. I have a Hefeweizen fermenting in it right now. I don't harvest yeast so a dump wasn't a big thing for me so I decided on the F+. I have to say I love it though. It is my first use so I have to see if where I set the pickup angle is good, but outside of that I...

    Rough brew day yesterday

That's what I'm hoping. Like I said, if that is it, I'll sell it. I'll find out when I get home today.

    Rough brew day yesterday

Yup, tasted fine going in so not worried about a scorched wort. E4 code was fuseable link or element error. Couldn't troubleshoot full of grain and wort. Check the link and reset with a meter and all checked out after i emptied it and cleaned out the residual. So unless the controller...

    Rough brew day yesterday

Wasn't going to buy the same thing twice :).. But the day only interrupted, not stopped. The more I think about it and looking back, I'm wondering if the grain crush was too fine. I did notice a very thick paste on the bottom of the kettle after I transfered over to the grainfather. Wondering...

    Rough brew day yesterday

I've got about 10 brews in it so far and have liked the M&B. Not sure why it burned so bad this go around. I'm hoping it was a fluke thing. Tonight or tomorrow I'm planning on putting water in it and seeing if it works. If so, I'll offload it. I put a meter to the switch and fuseable link...

    Rough brew day yesterday

What better place to share a story about a crazy day. Started my brew day with my mash and boil and was planning on a 2 step mash. 25 minutes at 122 degrees then recipe called for 90 minutes at 152. After the first step, I adjust temp and around 135 I get an E4 error code. Carefully checked...

First batch in the BE Mash and Boil, questions...

This. I have the M&B. I bought a pump (mine was prior to their release with the built in pump) and do constant recirc. I stir about every 15 minutes too. The deadspace is about .5 gallon below the basket. I run 1.5 to 2 quarts per pound. I typically sparge 2.5 gallons to get to boil...

Fast Fermenter and adding a sampling port - review

If you're not experiencing leaks at the spigot mouth, maybe I'll grab another and see if it was a one off. My other fermenter I would go higher though just for a flatter surface.

Fast Fermenter and adding a sampling port - review

I thought I'd post about my experience and thoughts on my recent addition of a sampling port to the Fast Fermenter. I decided to add the sampling port since I hated pulling the cap and risking oxydation when taking a gravity reading and thought this is a great way to deal with it and since a...

What set-up is next (for you)?

Yesterday a buddy of mine says "Since you sold your boat, you should build a temp controlled building in the spot in your yard that you kept it. Turn it into a small brewery with a bar for friends to come hang out." If only I had that kind of money. haha

What set-up is next (for you)?

If I had the funds, I'd go with a Spike Pilot system, 15 gallon and 3 of their fermenters with heating/cooling control.

    Trying to clone Spaten Octoberfest

I haven't had it in a bottle yet. Found it on tap at 3 different restaurants I like. I am going to try to order my brew jacket in the next couple weeks then give this a go.

    Trying to clone Spaten Octoberfest

Well the full name is “Old Stein Inn” so the “Old Stone Inn” sounds like a legit name. It is a great spot to eat and drink. Authentic German and I never leave disappointed haha

    Trying to clone Spaten Octoberfest

2 minutes from my house is a restaurant called Old Stein. It's on tap all year. I may have to head there tonight haha..

    Trying to clone Spaten Octoberfest

Gotcha. That makes it even easier. Most of my temp control would be done through the FF and Brew Jacket since it has a fairly decent range. I can hold the FF at 50 or low 50s, move it up as mentioned then bring it down as low as possible before kegging. Makes sense to go right to keg, but...

    Trying to clone Spaten Octoberfest

I'm limited on cooling options to keep at lager ferm temps. I have been wanting (and have heard good reviews) on the brew jacket. I could keep at 50 degrees and up the temps slowly right from my fast ferment. My fridge is also my kegerator so I don't truly control the temp outside of being...

    Trying to clone Spaten Octoberfest

You just made my morning :).. I will be trying this. Going to be buying a brew jacket to get my fermenting temps where I need and will most likely rack to a carboy after dia rest so it will fit in my fridge (fast ferment doesn't fit in the fridge to lager.

    Trying to clone Spaten Octoberfest

I've seen a few recipe's in the Lager subforum, but if any of you guys have had Spaten's Octoberfest and have a clone recipe please share (or even if one of those recipes are similar). That is one of my favorite Octoberfests and if I can even come close to recreating that it would be awesome.
