Trying to figure out why my beers haze during fermentation and don't clear during crash

I do not notice any astringency. The part that triggered my curiosity is that both of these recipe's have been done multiple times prior when I used my 5 gallon system. The only real big change was pressure during the fermentation process. Same grain bills, same hops, same yeasts, just larger...

Trying to figure out why my beers haze during fermentation and don't clear during crash

I'm kind of stuck as I can't figure out why now I can't get my beers to clear during a cold crash. I have brewed 2 beers that stayed hazy that previously have been very clear. Now the changes: Originally brewed and clear: Grainfather LHBS milled the grain (unsure of gap) 1 Whirlfloc tab at...

Curious to see an update from OP and if he got everything sorted.

    Cooler for temp control?

Same here. Did a cooler, but ice melted too quickly. I did it twice and said to heck with it; bought a Glycol Chiller.

They come in quite often. When I've seen them OOS, within a few weeks they are back. At least that is how its been. I've purchased 5 so far.

No activity after 12 hours using a yeast starter

No worries. I'm sitting around 5psi. I don't use too much pressure.

No activity after 12 hours using a yeast starter

Others mentioned...... TIme I did my Oktoberfest Sunday and just started seeing pressure in my tank yesterday (I'm pressure fermenting so no bubbles until I hit my set pressure). Granted I'm fermenting a lager and 50 degrees so type and environment playing a role.

    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

I'll be using it for the first time this Saturday. I'll try and remember to take a video to post. What I like is you can adjust the drip plate as it is threaded and locked in place by a butterfly nut. I bought their dry hopper earlier in the year and have been really happy with their products...

    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

Gotcha. I’ve always seen them above and always done it that way. The only system I had where the line was below was grainfather but that was how they designed it. I have not noticed any difference in outcome above or below. Just sticking to above.

Why below the wort line? The Spike hose that comes with it is above based on their videos and the one I bought will be above. Never noticed the difference so curious.

I just grabbed this from brewers hardware. The arm is one piece and the TC with bushing is another. Hoping to try it soon.

    Exhaust Duct for Basement Brewery

Poor mans way: crack open the basement door or window. Most kitchen exhausts aren't using makeup air units so it would just depend how big of a hood and motor he's using. I do remember the reaction one of my customers had when we installed a brick oven in their restaurant. We had a makeup...

    Exhaust Duct for Basement Brewery

Depends on what you want to spend. Condenser lid will be cheaper if the infrastructure isn't present. You could punch through the CMU and go out the side of the basement. May need some site work to dig and reseal your foundation or go through a window if your basement has one of those small...
