    Begging Equipment Advice Needed

See answers in red. You'll also want to consider how you are going to transfer your beer from the fermenter to the keg. Your fermenter must be higher than the keg if you're going to gravitiy feed. That's not too hard with a 5 gallon batch but becomes more difficult with larger ones if you...

    DIY Whirlpool Nozzle

I used a slitting saw on a vertical mill but am trying to come up with a way to do it for those that don't have assess to a mill. I'm pretty sure it can be done with a standard cut off saw with an abrasive wheel.

What's th best plate chiller out there right now?

I have a Blichmann that I bought as part of a package deal so I paid well below retail for it. I cooled a 5 gallon batch from 212 to 75 in 12 minutes using ambient temperature water. I'm not sure that I'd spend two bills for one but DAMN it's better than a copper coil and way less complicated.

    Regulator for burner

That particular (10") burner is designed for up to 30 PSI but you will never use all that capacity. FYI, it is not anywhere close to 200,000 BTU. 70,000 BTU is more realistic but it is more than sufficient for your application. Your biggest concern will likely be your valve and thermometer...

    very old keg, still good?

Stainless does not have a "shelf life". I'd make a boil kettle out of it if I were you. There are plenty of conversion kits out there that don't require welding. The only thing you have to do is cut the top out.

Old Tank - Is it CO2?

AirGas has become a PITA in the last couple of years. They really cranked down on the franchises in my area and stepped on most of those "under the radar" type deals.

Old Tank - Is it CO2?

Connection types are general. The greatest difference is in fuel vs. inert gases where the threads are reversed. All fuel gas tanks have left hand threads (left=tighten). O2 and CO2 usually have different inlet threading but adapters are readily available.

Sharp edge on the lid of a keggle. What to do?

You might try what is called a "flap disk" if you own a right angle grinder. It's sandpaper vs. grinding wheel. You should be able to get it rounded off to the point you can finish by hand with emery cloth.

    DIY Whirlpool Nozzle

Made this from a 1/2" SS pipe cap. Total cost about $1.75 after tax. Haven't used it yet but will post follow up. No reason it should not work as intended.

    What burner to buy?

I like my Blichmann burners. The Bayou Classic with 10" burner runs between $100 and $130 depending on model. $30 more gets you stainless steel construction that will support you standing in the brew kettle if necessary.

    Beer carb dropping

Show me that in writing! DOT regulations require markings on tanks. There is no reference to markings on valve bodies.

    What burner to buy?

I have both Blichmann and Anvil. The Anvil is a good burner and I still use it occasionally.

    Beer carb dropping

The gauge on the CO2 tank is essentially useless until the tank is almost empty. CO2 under pressure is in liquid form which is why it is sold by the pound. The gauge doesn't react much until the liquid CO2 is almost completely evaporated.

I've had really good luck with Morebeer. They ship fast and their free shipping is two day to my location in Western Kentucky.

    Chicago Suburbs CO2 Tank Recertification

I took a personally owned tank in to AirGas a couple of months ago and was quoted $70+ before tax for testing. The franchise manager told me that that is their standard fee for hydrostatic testing for all non-Air Gas owned tanks and also stated that that Air Gas (in this area) has a third party...

    Chicago Suburbs CO2 Tank Recertification

Air Gas no longer does in house testing. Their fee is now in the $70 range. The test doesn't cost nearly that much but it is their way of "encouraging" you to lease tanks vs. purchasing them.
