Home Depot really wants me to drink bottled beer while I'm painting

The nostalgia is suddenly high in the thread... oh the days when AM radio and those 3, maybe 4 channels you could get on the telly actually had something interesting to consume... also when AM radios in cars could pick up Guam. <sigh>

How does diactel rest work when fermentation was hot

Let it all ride my friend! I recently brewed a Newcastle clone with Nottingham, set the chamber for 68, but it also bumped up into the low 70s a bit, then settled down. Didn't do a d-rest at all, just gave the batch ample time to get to FG, then kegged it out. Much like fining agents have...

Home Depot really wants me to drink bottled beer while I'm painting

About 10 years ago I was at home watching PBS Saturday morning cooking shows, specifically Jacques Pepin Fast Food My Way. He opened up a crown cap bottle with a spoon, simple lever. Kinda blew my mind, so I immediately started trying it out. Ever since then I've found I can open any crown...

    Lutra in a pseudo-lager

5 days and it's that clear? Wowza. Any tips you can provide? SMaSH Pils? Nicely done.

Closed transfer from Corny keg to corny keg

I ferment in kegs as well using the floating dip tube with a mesh screen on the business end. I do closed transfers from this keg to a "normal" corny keg with a non-cut dip tube for serving all the time. Works a treat. The key is to go slow. Normally I pressurize both the serving and...

    Primary with tiny headspace?

That temp range should be OK coupled with a good d-rest with a few points left to go. Cold crash if you can for a few days afterward to help clear things up. US-05 flocs out in the middle of the pack, so a crash should help. Re: Kveik - had a friend use some Lutra in a batch of seltzer...

New post a picture of your pint

Dark English Mild, about 3.7 abv. Brewed 7/8, kegged 7/21.

    Primary with tiny headspace?

Low-temp fermentation with most yeasts, both with Ale and Lager strains will give a more neutral flavor profile and suppress the ester formation which lends to fruity flavors. Lager yeast strains are more "dialed in" to fermenting at temps below 60F due to their historical use before the...

    Brew pot

That's a fantastic S.O. ya got there IMHO. Have fun going down the BIAB rabbit hole!

    Primary with tiny headspace?

What is considered the "very low end" of the temp range you are working with? Here's my totally anecdotal example: I recently whipped up a BoPils that I fermented in a corny keg. 1042 OG, 1008 FG, so ~4.5% ABV. I aerated with an O2 tank + diffusion stone, then added about 8 drops of FermCap...

    Spunding/Co2 process

Doing a pressure fermentation in a corny I get it pretty full, 18L (4.76gal). That leaves a bit over 2L of headspace in a standard corny keg. It's tight, but with Fermcap+pressure it really helps keep the krausen calm.

    Spunding/Co2 process

Nicely done. Had a question about your blowoff bottle setup... Do you have any tubing inside the 2L bottle connected to either of the carbonation caps? When I run a bottle like this I have some 5mm-I.D. EVABarrier tubing (no clamps needed) running from the top-most carb cap to near the...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

A 240V GFCI breaker in the panel is always the best option. For your situation it would be a bit more involved due to the 3-prong 240V outlet you have. You'd need to bring the outlet as well as the wire "up to code" as well as installing the breaker in the panel. Your pic is showing a...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

It will work. I've made an adapter to convert that 240V 3-prong NEMA-10/50 you have (with the angled blades) to connect to my default NEMA-14/30 plug that I use on my GFI cable. I did this because I have a 4-prong NEMA-14 dryer outlet at my place, but my friend has the same 3-prong NEMA-10/50...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

To be "legit" the 240-to-120V adapter will need to be plugged into a 240V outlet (dryer, spa, et. al) that is supplied by a GFCI breaker in the panel. Some folks have whipped up a "spa/breaker" adapter box which runs between your regular dryer/spa outlet and the Foundry. As it is an...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

I can see the safety aspect of removing the NEMA-5 120V plug that comes standard on the Foundry to obviate the possibility of the kettle being plugged into a 120V outlet while the switch was still set to 240V... that being said from what I've read, accidentally plugging the stock Foundry kettle...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Inline 240 volt GFI power cord for Anvil Foundry and Brewzilla Brewing Systems - YouTube I followed the link above to create a 240V NEMA-30 dryer outlet-to-NEMA-5 (120V cord attached to the Foundry). It works a treat! Fairly simple, and with the handy switch on the back of the kettle, you...
