Which mesh size for hop spider?

In case nobody else has recommended it Stainless Brewing uses 400 micron stainless mesh. http://stainlessbrewing.3dcartstores.com/Hop-Spider-with-seam-welds_p_158.html

Homebrewdude Review of Spike CF10 Conical

Sure you're not overlooking something in your setup? By the looks and sounds of the video Spike posted it seems do do a pretty good job with a Chugger. https://www.facebook.com/SpikeBrewingEq/videos/1356414554382448/

    best fermentation system?

Sub'd. Looking at getting a new conical and using a fermentation chamber!

    New Unitank from SS Brewtech!

I haven't done the price break down yet if I added the blow off cane and bracing shelf to the Spike unitank however I don't need either of those features. I also plan to use a fermentation chamber so I don't need the chilling coil or jacket. So the $400 savings stays in my wallet! :ban:

    Spike... I need a conical

Has anyone received their pre-sale unit? Really interested in how these compare to other options on the market.

    New Unitank from SS Brewtech!

This should be interesting! Spike Brewing just released their new conical and it is listed at a 15psi working pressure so it can be used as a unitank as well. It's $400 less too! I have a SS brew kettle but seriously considering picking up one of the Spike CF10's...

    Crazy low efficiency

I'm sure it's been touched on but I went from 65% efficiency to over 80% because of a crush change. I was using the mill at my LHBS and then got my own mill. Made a hugeeee difference.

    Star San Soak - Passivation?

I would read deeper. Most of the quick hits talk about phosphoric acid not passivizating but doing little more than cleaning. My knowledge is coming from years of industry experience.

    Star San Soak - Passivation?

Star San does not passivate SS. Star San is phosphoric acid which is not used to passivate. (Google phosphoric acid passivation and watch nothing come up). To passivate SS after welding, machining, etc you need harsh chemicals at high temps. Stainless naturally passivates with oxygen...

ss brew tech 20 gallon mash tun

But why? The convection losses are hugely out weighed by the HERMS coil. It's literally doing nothing for a bunch more money. Plus how are people punching holes for connections through the insulation?

    Aluminum Kettle CLEAN

Just boil some water in it to get a good oxide layer built up again and you'll be good!

ss brew tech 20 gallon mash tun

Question: Why did you spend the extra $225 on an insulated mash tun when your running a HERMS? A standard kettle would have worked just fine in your situation and would have saved a bunch of money.

ss brew tech 20 gallon mash tun

Yeah I use my Yeti Rambler everyday. I've never once ever pre-heated my coffee mug. I sometimes fill it up halfway after lunch and it's still hot when I leave. Wouldn't the alternative be not purchasing the vessel that only kinda works when a bunch of leg work is used? My kettle with false...

    Temp Controlling a Conical Fermenter

Have you looked at retrofitting one of the SS brewing coils and temp controllers?
  15. BarleyPopBrewer

ss brew tech 20 gallon mash tun

So you need to heat 20 gallons of water, then put into your MT, then let it heat up, dump all that water and THEN start brewing!? Is it just me or does that seem like a huge inconvenience and a waste of 20 gallons of water!?

    New Tri-clover arrive scratched

You get what you pay for. I don't get why people try to save a dew bucks on a part, then wait 3 weeks for it to arrive and hope that it's what you paid for. There are tons of great vendors out there selling high quality parts that you can have on your door step on a few days. I don't get it...

Might have to try this for our next brew day!

    Help on conical fermenter

I don't think shouting from the rooftops is necessary but a few people specifically asked the question and it was ignored multiple times. This implies to me that something is being hidden/blurred. It would just be nice to note when the lines were officially blurred. Just my opinion which I know...

    Help on conical fermenter

Minus the multiple people in this thread stating the conical barely holds 1psi :p I must be wrong but weren't you posting under 'mfabe' as a shill for SS with all your "honest product reviews"?? And a few people called you out with no response...
