What yeast did ferment with? What yeast did you pitch? What numbers were you looking for? As is you had an attenuation of 66.4% and an ABV 5.5% Bottom line, wait and see.

Why did I become such a puss after marriage and children?

Hell mine have gotten bigger. I got lucky and married a woman that lets me use them. She would yell out me if I didn't go hunting. She even hunts too. Football is her favorite TV show. And I would have a fight on my hands if I tried to keep out of the brewery. I just found out that for...

The longest you've gone exclusively drinking homebrew

In that case last summer "I" didn't buy any beer for the house for about 5 months. A brewing buddy brought a 6er of Shiner Smokehause by one weekend and I drink one while brewing, but that was it at home. (But that doesn't count the pub or the Beer Fest or eating out, because they were at...

The longest you've gone exclusively drinking homebrew

At home, 2 to 4 months (or more) when I have the pipeline primed and going good, then I'll go get a couple of the make your 6 packs to try some different brands. However I'll buy a beer when we eat-out if they offer anything good or a beer I haven't had before, so maybe 2 weeks or 3 weeks tops.

    Cost of Home Brewing

I'm brewing a Northern Brown Ale this weekend. Total cost if I walked to my LHBS and purchased everything of the shelf. $16.52. Because I buy in bulk, and haverst my yeast, total cost when all factors including DME for yeast starter and water treatment is figured in, $9.90. That's less than...

I don't take gravity readings anymore

I never took readings at first but the more I learned the more I did. My beer got better and the results more repeatable. Now I always take readings because it makes my beer better. And I don't care what the rest of you do this monkey will keep taking readings.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

As far as "good beers" I don't care for.... Blue Moon. It's not bad or anything there just something there I don't like.

How to get the best clarity in a Blond

Explain it to them in very small words, very slowly. Stopping often to make sure they are clear about the topic. Ohhh.... a Blonde Ale ... see what I mean. On topic.. The short answer is the beer will drop clear if in the primary or the secondary if given the same time...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

OB (Oriental Brewery) in Korea back before the country put regulations on it. One would drinkable the next would taste like what the underside of horse blankey smells like after a long hard ride. Here now they are a passable light lager.

    Underage Brewing?

Will this help Statute United States Code of Federal Regulations Title 27, Part 25, Subpart L, Section 25.205 and Section 25.206 Beer For Personal or Family Use § 25.205 Production. (a) Any adult may produce beer, without payment of tax, for personal or family use and not for...

Aging or Maturing - Does it make a difference?

About a month ago I found an Old St Nick (my holiday brew) that a been hiding in the corner of the Beer Cave for 3 years. It was so good. Now if that had been my Mouse Drool (an American Wheat), I don't think it would have been so good. Basically the bigger and more complex beers take well...

    Cost of Home Brewing

I make 5 gal batches, that comes out to 50 bottles. I All-grain, and buy my ingreditents in bulk when I can. I also harvest my yeast. Excluding equipment of course, I spend $15 for a lawnmower beer to $40 for a big beer like an Old Ale or Barleywine. That's $0.30 to as high as $1.00 I'll...

    The Joy of Brewing???

Woo Hoo!! It worked again for the ### time. Why is it that even after years of brewing and many batches under your belt you still love seeing that airlock start to bubble on your newest batch. Or am just weird? Of course there's that first taste of a new recipe. That's so good too...

    Hop bags

+1 I use grain bags for mine hops pettets. There is plenty of room for the wort to move through the bag and the hops. The fine mesh keeps everything inside. At the then end I just 'press' the bag up against the side of the boiler to get out the last of the 'hop tea.'

Why are there so many people on the "Beginner" forum?

I would rather see 10 new brewers ask the same questions 10 time a day and have that question answer respectfully, than see 1 new brewery driven away by rude answer from some who's just frustrated about the way this a every forum out there works in the real world.

    bottling/capping with tiwst offs

My Red Baron Capper will cap them. I've heard that they don't work very well. I've never had a problem the few times I've used them. Just because I don't have to, I don't use them anymore. (better safe then sorry)
