    Wedding Beer

I've done several hibiscus meads in the past that have turned out very well. I usually make a tea using 4-6 ounces of dried hibiscus flowers for a 5 gallon batch, with 12-15 pounds of wildflower honey. It's been a favorite among my family and friends, and ends up a beautiful dark red color...

Have you brewed it without tasting the commercial version?

I've brewed Midwest's Hex Nut Brown Ale, which is supposed to be a Goose Island clone. It turned out great, though I still haven't had the opportunity to try the Goose Island version. The couple times I've looked for it, I couldn't find it.

Are you an all-grain brewer; what's your preferred mashing method?

I've only done extract with specialty grains so far. I plan on starting AG soon. I plan on just a single infusion mash and batch sparging.

    Good news everyone..!

Party on Garth. Welcome to HBT. Lots of great people here, and more knowledge than most will ever need.

    Airlock alternatives?

I recall reading that one member here often pitches his yeast anf ferments right in his brew kettle. He just puts some saran wrap around the lid. It seems to work for him, and could be worth a shot. Of course that would mean you're out of a brew kettle for a few weeks, unless you have extras.

    Music while brewing

Depends on what strikes me at the time. I've brewed to blues, grunge, folk metal, classic rock, and punk. Hard to go wrong with Zeppelin on a brew day, though.

    How did you find us?

When I first started making mead, I'd look on Google for recipe ideas. HBT was almost alway the first link, and always had a great recipe for what I had in mind. When I move on to beer, I was able to find the answer to pretty much any question that I had here.

So I opened my fermenter... How do I fix this?!

I'm really concerned about it spreading to the keg. It's always a tragedy when a keg gets such infections.

To bottle for my wedding, or buy legging equipment???

For mine, I did a keg of stout, a keg of cider, bottled a batch of IPA, bottled a batch of red ale, and bottled a batch of mead. Guests liked the convenience of the bottles, but liked the novelty of the kegs. I just had to make sure to have plenty of plastic cups so people could pour the...

    Reasons for starting home brewing?

A buddy of mine gave me a bottle of mead that he made, since it is difficult to find a decent commercial mead, and it was outstanding. I asked him to show me how. After a couple batches (that I never let age properly) I decided it couldn't be that difficult to make beer. As luck would have it...

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

About 6 months. Only a couple more left. Good news is that I'll be able to afford some new equipment and make the jump into all grain.

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

Waiting for deployment to be over. Counting down the days until I can brew again.

The beer that got you into beer

I started out with Coors light and PBR. Then one of my buddies introduced me to Stone's Arrogant Bastard. I didn't like it at first, but soon found myself wanting more of it. It just kinda went on from there.
