Today is the first day of the rest of my life!

Congratulations, Jay! That's gotta be a nice feeling. Looking forward to your future products.

    Need San Diego beer suggestions

Pizza Port is always good. Coronado is pretty good, too. Pretty much everyone out here has their own IPA, and most are pretty decent. Stone looks to have some pretty good releases coming up soon, so it could at least be worth a look.

Suggestions for trying my first sour

Thanks, nestler. It sounds like Russian River and The Bruery are probably going to be my best starting points. We'll see if Bevmo has anything else that I recognize.

    Secondary Fermentor

Most of the time they're not really necessary. Some people like to use them, and some don't. The main reason most people will use them is if they're adding something after primary fermentation is done (fruit, oak, things like that). The kit intends the secondary to be used to let the beer...

    New brewer from Michigan

Oh, wow. I was born in Adrian, and lived there for a little while when I was really young.

Suggestions for trying my first sour

I've still got a few weeks left of deployment. I'm just trying to get some information so when I finally get home, I can get something that won't destroy my palate.

Suggestions for trying my first sour

This is really great to information for me. I figure if I sip it slowly, and not expect it to taste like what I'm used to, I should be okay. I try to be open minded when I try new beers, but this is something entirely different. I've read other places that when you first start tasting sours...

    Laziest cider ever!

Using yeast at the right temperatures is a big thing that will help, and letting them work long enough. Cider is a bit different than beer, which is what I'm used to. With cider, some people will stop fermentation early when they reach that sweet spot where the flavor is right where they want...

Suggestions for trying my first sour

Thank you guys for the responses. I'm looking to test the waters a bit, but it seems like sours are a whole new world of beer. This should at least give me a decent starting place.

Suggestions for trying my first sour

I had considered brewing some sours eventually, but I want to make sure it's something that I'll like before dropping dropping the money for dedicated sour equipment. I'll take a look around and see if I can find anything by Bruery. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I always seem to forget...

I always seem to forget that the kegs run dry eventually. Few things are more heartbreaking than going to fill up a glass and only ending up with about 1/4 of it filled up.

    Newbie question around hops

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people and information on here. It comes down to personal preference. Some people will say that using a basket or hop bag will cause a decrease in how well the hops are utilized. And others say that using the basket or bag will help keep their beer...

    New Brewer from NoVA

Welcome to the obsession. Sounds like a great first brew. It took me a couple blow offs before I realized that a blow off tube was a thing. Hahaha. Glad you picked up on it quicker than I did.

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

I've gotten moonshine questions and "Is it safe to drink?"/"Will it make me go blind?" a few times. Most people ask if they can taste it sometime. Then again, I work with Marines and Corpsmen, so free beer is always welcome.

    co2 tank connections

I used to do the same thing. I'd just have to hook up the co2 if I was drawing more than a pint or two to make sure it stayed properly carbed. Never really had an issue with it.

Suggestions for trying my first sour

Hey guys (and gals), I've been reading a lot about sours lately, and I'm curious about them. I've never tried one. Any suggestions for a good one to try. Preferably something easily available in southern California. Thanks for your input.

    1st boil over.

Part of the reason I invested in a burner. SWMBO wasn't fond of boil overs happening on the stove. Also sounds like a good excuse for a new boil kettle. :D

    Laziest cider ever!

If you enjoy the end results, and don't feel like spending the extra money or time, then I say stick with it. On the other hand, if you do eventually want to step it up or try further experiments, there's a whole world of things you can do with cider. Plus, ways to make it cleaner, and with...

    Homebrew For Heroes fund raising

I love this idea. Our deployment is just starting to wind down. After I get settled in back home, I'd love to donate what I can to help out my brothers and sisters in arms.
