    Mash draining rate

I buy my grain from Adventures in Homebrewing, it's a 30 minute drive from my house, and they crush it for me... should I be specifying how much they crush? Cause I haven't been...

    Mash draining rate

Sorry for the double-reply... was getting a goofy error on my iPhone using the HomeBrewTalk app, looked like I hadn't replied yet...? Maybe another topic for another thread

    Mash draining rate

Yup I've been thinking the same thing... Nothing like diving in head first though right? My plan for my next brew is lower gravity with my newly written out brew-day process I've been working on, based on my mess ups and the great info on the forum here.

    Mash draining rate

I've been really confused about this as well... I went for a RIS for my first AG batch... 24 lbs of grain, batch sparged. My efficiency was horrible, which I attributed to draining the MLT way too quick. I ended up with a super bitter black ale I'm going to try to pass off as a black IPA...

Rebuilding My Brutus Hybrid Into a Kal Clone

I kind of figured it would be up there! My setup is very piece-meal right now... I'm making investments in improving individual parts of it, which is kind of a short-sighted approach. I look at this thread and what you've built and love the vision and forethought put into what you wanted the end...

Rebuilding My Brutus Hybrid Into a Kal Clone

John... Have you kept track of the expenses for this setup? If so, what kind of investment have you made to get where you are? I get its been 5+ years in the making and like you said a while back, this hobby can get crazy when you think about the money... That's why you shouldn't... But I'm...

How long is too long to pitch yeast?

Good to know... I like "better to pitch later than improper", I suppose I was following that already because this recipe calls for 62 F and that temperature is key to achieve proper results... The wort would have been too hot last night anyway, and the starter wasn't quite ready, thus the delay...

How long is too long to pitch yeast?

I spent all day yesterday brewing a Dunkelweizen, and had made a 1000 mL starter the day before. Last night I tossed the starter in the fridge to separate out the yeast from the DME wort with the intention of throwing out the top layer and pitching just the yeast. So this morning I pulled it...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Great thread! I've got 5.5 gallons of an American IPA fermenting right now, about a week away from bottling, and I'm definitely planning to wash the yeast now. A couple questions, I've tried searching the thread but couldn't find the answers: 1) Does anyone who washes / saves yeast like what's...

    Hops Question - American IPA

What new equipment did you get?

I got a nice SS 9 gal. brew pot with two weld ports, one for a new thermometer and one for a ball valve. Also finally converted my 7 gal. igloo cylindrical cooler to a mash-tun with copper pipe manifold. Ready to start all-grain brewing!

Cooler Mash Tun - False Bottom vs. Copper Manifold

I've got a 7 gallon Rubbermade cylindrical cooler and I'm starting to gather materials to convert it to a mash tun. I'm trying to figure out the pros / cons of a plastic false bottom vs. a ring copper manifold... I've got a copy of Palmer's How To Brew and it sounds like if you make the...
