American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

Mine had normal head (i've done 2 batches). Didn't last crazy long or anything. I also keg, i know if my pressures get too low i don't get head on anything, same with temps to an extent. But i'd imagine that there are oils in the orange zest that could kill head? Maybe you got extra oily...

    Maris Otter/Cascade SMaSH

Did this again, replaced the Cascade with Simcoe and used wlp001 instead of wlp007. Came out better then the cascade version imho, mostly because of the different hop flavor. I made that batch as the "yeast starter" for a pliney clone (jamil's recipe in brewing classic styles), still aging the...

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

Going on just one trial each way, I preferred this brew when I added the 2 oz for dry hop as late addition hops instead (so an extra oz, total of 2oz, at 5 min and 1 min, no dry hop).

    Stone XI Anniversary Clone

I would leave it in primary while you are gone, then transfer to secondary for a ~5 day dry hop when you get back, then bottle/keg. And extra aging of course won't hurt this one.

    Stone XI Anniversary Clone

Yeah, this didn't last long at all, especially after it won kauz everyone wanted to try it. I was shooting for a higher OG, don't remember exactly, i think like 9% is what i wanted. It was my first grain bill that large, so i over estimated my efficiency by a good bit. I didn't want a medium...

    Stone XI Anniversary Clone

I recently placed first in a homebrew competition with the following recipe, it scored a 41/50 and none of the judges had anything bad to say. I actually made it without the dextrose, but was unhappy with my efficiency since I wanted a really big beer, so I added it in as an after thought to...

    Slanting yeast

I have heard of people boiling w/ some luck, but i think you're going to get more contam's and headaches then is worth it. Even working with fully sterilized agar can be quite discouraging if your handling procedure is not fully sterile, aka good glove box (or better yet flow hood). The real...

Results from juice, yeast and sugar experiments

There is a 4th way stop fermentation early to leave sweetness if you have the equipment; filter the cider. Using a filter below 0.5μ (i think, going on memory) should remove all the yeast and thus stop fermentation. I have not tried this myself though.

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

Sorry, just realized i was thinking of another brew, this one was S04. Can't speak on nottingham from experience on this recipe but i would think it would work great, as it has on other brews for me. The SMaSH was WLP007.

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

I did a Marris Otter/Cascades SMaSH right after this brew and they were amazingly similar, at least the malt profile anyway. You'll still have a great brew if you can't get the vienna. I'd sub either more crystal or more MO. Edit: Just saw that your doing PM. I'd probably add in some MO...

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

This beer is getting the honor of being the first recipe I will brew again (I've been brewing less then a year, made some other great recipes I will brew again, just still more interested in trying new brews). It was incredibly sad watching the keg spit the last bit of foam yesterday. But I...

Ideas for a changeable label on my tap handle

Echoing a few from above but I would go with either magnets, spray adhesive (on only one surface, label or tap) or go with chalkboard paint and just write in each new brew. Depends what you have available...

Beer Tree!! (Camping w/ a Keg)

Oh, and "Beer Tree" was the name given to it (the assembly plus the huge dead tree it was buried by) after a couple pints. Sadly no beer even grew despite our hopes... But the tree didn't fall on my buddies tent (a very real concern) so we'll call it even.

Beer Tree!! (Camping w/ a Keg)

It's a 1/6 barrel. And maybe next time I'll go for a tap out the tree. As it was this was just improvised. The keg idea was last minute, very last minute. So we got up there w/ no cooler or anything else to keep the beer cold besides the weather, which worked the first night pretty well, but...

Beer Tree!! (Camping w/ a Keg)

haha, it was not exactly a campground. So unless bears have figured out how to work a tap it would be fine by itself.

Beer Tree!! (Camping w/ a Keg)

I got some great news before going on a camping trip last week, so I decided there needed to be some extra celebrating. So we carried a pony keg up the mountain to camp. The useful info here is that we found a way to keep it good and cold. I dug a big hole then inserted a trash bag. Then...
