American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Okay, first off I totally messed up some things with this recipe.....LHBS bucket and cloth to guide crushed grains was misplaced so I ended up with .5 lb on the floor which was likely the crystal. I added "some" grains to make up for this, a pound if I remember correctly but I'm not sure what...

    Strange smelling fermentation

At some point this weekend I may force myself to try this but I'm imagining it tasting like....horrible chemical rubbery liquid. I just can't imagine this turning out well. Thinking about the smell makes my stomach turn. My best guess is that this beer was infected by wild yeast.

    Strange smelling fermentation

I took a sample out to give it a try but the smell is so strong I cannot bring myself to taste it. I would describe the smell as a plastic medicinal chemical smell....I can't really describe it exactly. It kind of burns your nose when you take a sniff. Hopefully someone can tell me what I'm...

    Strange smelling fermentation

I'm not sure I want to try this, it just smells really off? Post fermentation these bubbles popped up which I do not have when using Safale US-05. I'm starting to think this batch is infected....maybe wild yeast? The smell is not horrible, it's just not right either....buttery chemical smell...

    Strange smelling fermentation

Thank you for your explanation. I'll definitely post back when I give this beer a try.

    Strange smelling fermentation

Bensiff, I'm not sure I completely understand what your saying? Are you saying that the yeast themselves do not produce any diacetyl and if diacetyl is present it's due to infection, and if there is an infection it was most likely transferred to the starter wort by the bottled yeast? My...

    Strange smelling fermentation

Last week I cultured some yeast from 3 bottles of Bell's, 2 were Oberon and 1 bottle was Two Hearted. The culture was small and it was stepped up one time before I refrigerated and stored in a jar. This past weekend I decided I would use this yeast on a Two Hearted clone I was making. I made...

    Frozen Rhizome.

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

    Frozen Rhizome.

I've run across a few different threads where it's been suggested to keep your hop rhizome from freezing if it's planted in a container and not directly in the ground. The usual suggestions I've read are to either plant the hop rhizome in the ground or move the planter inside the garage or...

    need answer fast

Your bitterness will come out much more when it's carbed, uncarbonated beer often tastes almost sweet and nothing like the finished product, I wouldn't worry about it.

    HELP!! Stopper wont stay put!

It's the StarSan causing the bung to pop out. I usually just leave it partially out until it's drier, then shove it in the rest of the way.......wow does that sound bad :)

    Two Hearted Ale clone....kit.

I'm drinking the clone right now, Steinsato it is from AHS. I used 3.25 gallons of water vs. the 2.5 the instructions said to use. Beyond that I followed the instructions exactly and the beer turned out really well. My clone definitely does not taste exactly the same as the Bell's Two Hearted...

First AG brew, not satan's anus but....

not good either. It's STRONG, I suppose you could drink it if you don't mind drinking things like melted plastic or gasoline. The problem is I may have done more than one thing wrong and I'm not sure which resulted in the problem, though I have my suspicions. I did the BIAB in a cooler and...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'll be brewing my first AG this weekend! I decided to go with a kit so the "process" is the only thing I can screw up and not the ingredients. The kit I decided to go with is the Karankawa Pale Ale (from AHS) after reading the thread here....plus it's getting close to summer and it's a bit...
