    office water cooler fermentation. build???

so here's the guts. i actually have the coils separated from the water chambers. i pointed out the hot and cold water chambers, and they are indeed connected by a pipe which allowed the water in bottle to fill the hot chamber as it filled the cold chamber. the thick white 'pipe' is the insulated...

    office water cooler fermentation. build???

Well, the way it all hooks up inside, the water can flow between both chambers. Because of that, the piping is pretty easy if I can seal off the cold chamber ( the big one the bottle usually sits in). After that, the ranco etc 21110000 should do the job, and you can find deals in that on eBay...

    office water cooler fermentation. build???

so, i have an office water cooler, with both hot and cold spigots. and if you follow the flow, the water can go straight through from the cold to the hot chamber. I was thinking a pump could move water from a an insulated tub with a carboy in it, through both chambers, and a 2 stage ranco ETC...

    Computer Controlled Fermentation Chamber

If i were doing it, I'd use an external relay. why? a board that can handle a compressor is expensive, and if something should go FuBar, you only lose the relay, not the IO board. i know you said you've seen some boards, but I've been eyeing this guy for a while...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

yeah, it does. came home to find my fermenter lid blown clean off. first time I've ever had krausen reach the lid of 7 gallon ale pail edit: sorry the picture is rotated. you get the idea.

    DYI HERMS- Heating Element question

for maintaining temps, 1500W is good. remember, the only thing you're combating is the heat loss, and if your system is insulated, there really won't be much. now, if you're trying to do steps, it may take a little longer than you like, but it also depends on batch size. probably OK for stepping...

    Another Bar Build

I'm going back and forth on my (hopefully) soon to be bar. trying to decide between keezer or fridge chamber like yours. have you had any time to see how well it holds temp with the larger space? I was hoping to get 3, maybe even 4 under mine, but the freezers seem to tall, and the fridges seem...

    Utility Room Brewery Project

I'm guessing your brewing will be all-electric based on the breaker you showed us. since thats the case, venting through the dryer vent could work, just dont run the dryer at the same time, and see if you can put one way valves in, so you dont blow brewing exhaust in to the drier, and...

    questions one single tier build

this thread shows a 1" steel frame, and the builder seems to like it. the only drawback he says was that the are for the kegggles to sit can be kind of small, but he has some guides to keep the keggles from moving around and falling off. From what I've read, the 1" is plenty strong, and a lot...

    Combo Fermentation chamber/Keezer help

i have an idea... get something like this not the cheapest, of course, but imagine using the bottom cabinet, insulating it, and shoving a doorless mini fridge into it, kinda like what alot of guys here do for their ferm chambers, kinda like this example maybe going overkill, but if you can...

    March Pump Screamin!!!

i know I'm only repeating what has already been said, but i can't help it... this is copied from a vendors page for a march 809 NOTE: THESE PUMPS CANNOT BE RUN DRY ..IT WILL DAMAGE THE PUMP ...IF YOUR PUMP IS SQUEALING IT IS DUE TO NO FLUID IN THE HOUSING WHILE POWERING...

    Solenoid Valve Control - Help!?

one easy way to dothis with a miocrocontroller is using a data bus. if you have a few IO lines, you can use them to power up a series of resistors, not unlike this example. yeah, it'll use a few datalines, but you'll need them no matter what if you're trying to get more than just 'on off' out of...

converting a cooler to a mash tun

here's what I would consider doing: any weldless bulkhead kit will work for getting the liquid out (with an appropriate manifold), but the problem is there isn't enough strength in between the inner and outer walls to maintain a tight and reliable seal once you cut the hole. get yourself some...

    powering fridge and freezer independently

i haven't disected a lot of refrigerators, but I'm fairly certain that in many models, both top and bottom run off the same coils. some may use fans to direct more air to the freezer vs refrigerator, so there may be a way to use that, but usually there's only one compressor for the whole unit.

    Electric HLT/BK Control Box Question

if you want independent control, and money is a concern, then I'd say a PID is a bit overkill for the BK. build or get a simple PWM (pulse width modulation) circuit for that element. probably drops the cost for that control to under $10. only drawback is that you can't read the temp on the BK...

    Some thoughts on efficiency.

I supposed water volume accuracy may be my weak point. I'm using markings in my HLT to judge my volumes, so I could be way off there. The only thing against that is I actually ended up with about 4.5 gallons post boil, so I either user estimated my mash loss, or my boil off. And yes, i did temp...

    Some thoughts on efficiency.

Just throwing this out for anyone to comment. I'm working on a 60 minute IPA cone based on yooperbrews recipe. All told I used just shy of 14 pounds of grain for a 5 gallon batch. Strike with ~5gallns, sparge with about 3.5 gallons. I maintained a good fermentation temp without dropping temps...

Dual Electric Build - feedback requested

do you have an example of what burner you want to use? It sounds like a 'dorm room' burner for a single pot that place your small kettles on. I would think they have dials to control the power, so I dont see you needing a PID, at least no until you start mashing with all grain. either way, i...

    Aeration Question, i think

yeah, i always thought that oxygen was needed for the cells to reproduce. while true, it would be more accurate to say that the cells need oxygen to maintain healthy cell walls as they reproduce. this method changes that by allowing the yeast to absorb the lipids necessary from compounds in the...
