Ferment 2.5 gallons in 3 gallon BB?

It's a good ecuse to get a larger fermentor! I mean come on, I just spent $23 dollars on a 8 gal plastic tube just to have something bigger then my 6.5 gal glass carboy. I seem to push the limits of my carboys but who does not want more beer!

    Reusing Fermenter Without Cleaning

I would remove the cake and clean the fermentor. Just the thought about the old krausen sticking to the sides could be a tougher to clean would make me do it. I think you would be relatively ok just pitching on top of the old cake, but why take the chance. Just a single bacteral organism getting...

Help! How can I fix this? (time sensitive)

What's so hard about sparging in a 10 gal cooler? I use the same rig on my 10g as I use on my 5g with great success. I average 80 to 90% efficiency with fly sparging. The key is to lauter with a moderate to slow rate. You are more likely to experience channeling with a braid then a false bottom...

    complex calculation!!!HELP!!!

It might be a little low in grains for a OG of 1.075-80 for 10 gal but it all depends on your efficiency of your system. I used close to 14lbs of malt for my 6 gal batch, and I hit a OG of 1.073. No matter what, I would let it sit in the primary for longer. I left mine for 3 weeks as it was...

Help! How can I fix this? (time sensitive)

Hmmm, I wonder what if you re boiled the everything to reduce it to say a 7 or 8 gal size? I don't know what would happen to the hop oil already in suspension as if you would lose some or just concentrate the IBUs? It would raise your OG to be more in style of what you are looking for with out...

    complex calculation!!!HELP!!!

What type of scotch ale? If it is a 80/-, 90/-, or wee heavy it already is pretty dam dark anyway. So I would not worry about it. As far as the gravity of the batch I would not worry about it. I am no expert but if you boil down 1 1/2 gal of the first runnings you are removing h20, but all...

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

Just to check my system I ran Malwarebytes and Bitdefender, both the full paid versions and I came up empty as far as malicious items. So I am confident my loss did not originate in my system.

    Stir Plate

I knew there was a good reason I just had to buy a 1 gallon growler at the brew store today! I was thinking I would use it if I had too much beer to fit in my 6.5g fermentor as the attic space. Useing it instead for my yeast starer is so much win!

My new mash paddle arrived today

If he should make some more, I am sure a lot of us would buy them! I was looking for a paddle today at Hop To It and they only had one and it was way to big for my 10gal MLT. So I just bought a cheap plastic one. I would jump on a cool one. I am a rafter so could I get one shaped like a raft paddle?

My ridiculously easy stir plate build - nearly no tools needed!

Nice and easy! I may have a free stirplate from my dad's photography lab coming if my mom can find it. If that is not found I will build my own like yours.

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

Mine was hacked too and my last orders in the last 45 days were both from AHS. My card was blocked by the credit card company so I am glad they were ontop of it. I will wait for the breach to be fixed but I will order from AHS again.

Ever have a credit card number stolen???

Mine was stolen too! :( Luckily Chase contacted me after a few small charges were posted that did not look like me. I only use that card for online purchases and the only two charges I had done in the last 45 days had been to AHS. My last order was around Jan 19th. I don't blame AHS directly...

    BA$tards ripped me off

I have not used my 5 gal carboy in 10+ years as I usually use my 6.5 gal carboys. My pipeline was full and I wanted to brew a Octoberfast so I broke out the old 5 gal carboy and actully checked the volume to see where the 5 gal mark was. To my surprise, a five gallon carboy is just that, exactly...

    Making a Lautertun

Not to mention that braid is too big for the MLT. You really want a inch or two space from your braid to the cooler walls. Having the braid practically touching the cooler wall can lead to channeling and undersparging.

Help please, any Aurora, CO all grain brewers?

Look up Mile High Monks http://milehighmonks.ning.com/ for a front range brew club. They get together every month to brew at one of their members houses. They would be more then happy to help you out.

    Barley Crusher Contact Troubles

I guess I got one of the last ones until they catch back up on production. I odered it Jan 4 and recieved it Jan 25. Now I see that they are not on AHS website anymore. So hopefully it is just a temp thing until they catch back up.

Dumping Beer - Life is Too Short

I guess I am lucky. I started brewing in 1992 and in all those years, I have only tossed a single batch. It was a Fat Tire clone that never tasted right. It had a slight medicine taste so I assumed it was infected. Six gallons down the drain and it did not bother me. If one never makes a...

Stuck Sparges only with 10 gal rubbermaid

Thanks for clearing that up Dave. I tend to forget the c in cvpc when I think about it as I don't use the stuff myself.
