    Fermentation period

Normally 7-10 days primary fermentation is enough, but if you’re not doing a secondary i’d recommend leaving it for 14 days prior to packaging. more time won’t hurt.

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

Couple weeks in the keg, hooked it up to the gas. Carb seems okay, but i used a bev line that previously dispensed mint seltzer... lol. Turns out mint's an interesting flavor in this beer, but not what i'm going for. Gonna change that out... Didn't use any finings and it's still murky. Anybody...

    First BIAB...

Yep, brew night here was like 30* and even with a wrapped mash (13ish gal) i still lost 6-8 degrees over the hour. i’m getting as close to full volume as a i can but will have to add top up water to most batches since i want to try to stay @11g natch sizes due to waste. 15 gal kettle. anyone...

    First BIAB...

Long-time "3 vessel" brewer, except all I ever used (after a couple initial batches of extract) was an Igloo mashtun and a single pot. Tons of buckets and nonsense for batch sparging. Always looked forward to spending big $ on a 3-vessel system. Maybe I still will someday... Finally bought a...

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

Just brewed this up yesterday during a chilly Thanksgiving brew day! Can’t wait to give it a taste. Cut the lactose down by 50% but otherwise stayed close to BM’s recipe.

    Monster Mill 3 roller

I have the MM3 as well and have trouble getting the grains to ‘catch’ initially in the rollers. Had to play with my gap to get it under control, but often have to manually roll the rollers backward to lock up some grain and get things started. I use conditioned grain but same thing happened...

Trying to decide between this recipe and EdWort’s... anybody have experience with both?

(e)BIAB vs. 3-vessel - Give me your opinions!

...also, I'm sure I'm not the first to ask this question, feel free to link me other topics in the same vein! I'll read them all eventually.

(e)BIAB vs. 3-vessel - Give me your opinions!

Hey all - doing research on a future investment in a complete brewing system. I know I want it to be 30/ 50a electric and have been planning for 2 years on a 3-vessel system similar to @kal's design. Now I'm starting to consider eBIAB. Today I use a 10gal cooler mash tun and a 15gal Blichmann...

    Unitank/ CIP cleaning issue

Hey all. Recently I posted a thread on the one of the forums about a second batch in a row of beer that I had to dump. Same recipe, same yeast (though I split the starter, didn't harvest from the fermenter), same hops. Couldn't figure out what the issue was. So... dumped the second batch today...

    Homemade PBW Recipe

Okay, so i followed the recipe on this thread. put this through my CIP ball at about 150f for 40 min. still crud stuck on the inside of my Unitank. disappointed, but not sure that it’s this solutions fault. however, it doesn’t seem as caustic as PBW. any advice?

Two dumpers in a row... what gives??

Thanks guys. “Fermentation” has finally stopped so i’m going to give it one last taste before deciding to dump or not.

    Cooler mash tun bulkhead

What are y’all doing to get a leak-free seal? I’m banging my head over a few drips on a new tun.

Two dumpers in a row... what gives??

Great replies so far all, much appreciated. if this batch is indeed a dumper i’ll be taking the whole unitank apart for a good cleaning. If that doesn’t work out i’ll send the scrap to @GoeHaarden !! :)

Two dumpers in a row... what gives??

Could be, and that will be one of the things I switch out for my next batch. But the starter smelled normal and appeared healthy and the first 3 to 4 days of fermentation were tasting normal and good. So I’m not convinced it’s the yeast yet.

    Pressure fermenting

Nice job. I think i heard Palmer and Chris White on a Beersmith podcast saying not to go beyond 15psi (ideally ~5psi) to avoid suppressing the yeasts’ ability to reproduce.

Two dumpers in a row... what gives??

Hey all. Brewed up a second batch of the RR R2H56 clone after the first got infected. Unlike the first time I went straight through the whole mash/ boil brew day in one shot to avoid any unexpected kettle souring. Thanks to @IslandLizard for the input in the other thread. Anyway, batch #2 -...

    Carbing in a unitank

Have an SSBT unitank that i haven’t yet used the carb stone on. Wondering what other uni owners are doing for carbing? I have been doing <5psi pressure fermentation before kegging but am wondering if i should bother to use the carb stone before kegging as well. is there a “smart” way to carb to...

    Accidental sour

ugh. so it seems to be taking a turn for the worse. still bubbling now 6 days in and developed an astringency. figure it’s a dumper but i’ll let it ride a few more days to see if that cleans up. good thing i saved some of my starter yeast before pitching!
