Naturally Carbing Mini Kegs and Sealing With Threaded Lid

I'm not sure there's anything particularly special about that tubing... I see it says "a silicone dip tube that is flexible and heavier than beer" but I read that more as they chose silicone because it's heavier than beer and more flexible, unlike vinyl (or whatever the alternative would be)...

    Help with GFCI Breaker Options

For what it's worth, here's a picture of mine. The panel came prebuilt with the breaker for about $100 I think, then not much more for a dryer cord to go from the wall outlet to the panel, and the box and plug to attach to the side. Slightly different than the thread I linked, but that's where I...

    Consistent 1.006 FG

You've skipped the thermometer calibration question twice now... Have you checked that your mash thermometer is reading correctly? Mix up ice with a little water and it should read 32f. Then check that it reads 212f in boiling water. If it's not right, mashing a few degrees low could be giving...

    Help with GFCI Breaker Options

I built one of these a while back. It's basically a spa panel, but with an external plug.

The conversion from 68 to 60 only adds 0.001. You can use a calculator for other temps, but if you're typically reading at around 68, you can just keep that number in mind.

Have you calibrated the thermometer you're using to measure your mash temperature?

CO2 tank in the lagering chamber?

You left the gas attached and sitting at 8psi, right? If you just put 8 psi into there and then disconnected or turned the gas off, it won't carb up from that... Nice name BTW! :mug:

Small scale online bottle label ordering?

Keep your eye on Craigslist, or whatever your local equivalent is. I've got a nice color laser I picked up for under $100. You know you can download and print paper labels from that site as well, right? Only a few are free to download, but the membership to get the rest is pretty cheap...

Why do we sparge with hot water?

Yeah, my bad...someone else also corrected my misunderstanding already. I should know better than to speak on things I don't actually have experience with.

Used Potassium Metabisulfite & Potassium Sorbate - should I still pasteurize?

People do backsweetened still meads all the time without any heat pasteurization, just using the same things you did. And those are rarely kept at refrigerator temps.

Naturally Carbing Mini Kegs and Sealing With Threaded Lid

Good point. I was only speaking to this specific situation, where with no keg pressure yet, the regulator will always read zero even if it is open. That would not have been true if a co2 cartridge was attached and added pressure to the keg. I probably could have worded it better though. I can...

Why do we sparge with hot water?

Decoction isn't boiling the mash itself, it's pulling off a portion of the wort, boiling that, then adding it back to the mash and thereby raising the overall temp of the mash. The grains themselves (where the tannins are) is never raised over 170.

Naturally Carbing Mini Kegs and Sealing With Threaded Lid

Yes, attaching a closed regulator will close off that port.

Naturally Carbing Mini Kegs and Sealing With Threaded Lid

If the regulator is turned all the way down, I believe nothing should be flowing in either direction. You shouldn't even necessarily need a bulb attached (but make sure the regulator is actually turned down, it will always read 0 without a bulb attached regardless of what it's set to)

how many ounces of co2 for a 5 gallon corny?

Not all of the CO2 comes out of the beer during fermentation. How much it retains depends on the temperature (colder holds more CO2). The chart here should tell you how much CO2 to assume was left in your fermented beverage. In other words, for seltzer water assume 0 and go with the full 2.5 oz...

    First all grain question

This may be a weird question, but did you get that from a shop called Hop Hero? Those drawings on the recipe look familiar....

Final Gravity is usually low. Should I worry about it.

That depends on volume. 3F does seem a little low, but for full volume mashes (no sparge) I am usually in the 5-7 degree range.

Adding Sodium Metabisulphate at kegging effect on water profile

With a carbonation cap, I've added gelatin without O2. Priming sugar should be the same. Add mixture to empty soda bottle. Screw carbonation cap most of the way on Squeeze bottle until just a tiny bit of liquid drips from the threads Tighten cap (should be essentially 0 oxygen now) Pressurize...

    Ferminator Chamber

Peltier devices are only about 1/4 as efficient as a compression based cooler (i.e. what your refrigerator or air conditioner uses). Their advantage is they are cheaper, less complex, and much more compact. Because of that inefficiency though, in order to hold fermentation temperatures it will...
