    Brew in bag?

awesome! I've been doing 1 gal batches for learning and tweaking. And 'big beers' are down the line a bit. I still like my session beer.

    Brew in bag?

Not sure if this belongs here or the AG forum, but being a newbie.... Was watching the BasicBrewing video and saw the brew in bag deal. Looked pretty slick. No mash tun or sparging, just lift the bag out (and optional squeeze) when its time to boil. There has GOT to be a down side: what...

    My beer has no flavor

No flavor? Are you sure you didn't accidentally grab a Coors Light instead? (sorry, couldn't resist)

    which kit to buy?

I'm just starting out and when I bought from my LHBS, I asked if there would be anything else I needed. He said no. A few days later I'm out buying more stuff. I grabbed a stand for the hydrometer, wine thief, that bottle tree thingyhttp://www.midwestsupplies.com/45-bottle-drying-tree.html...

Attempting to get a beerxml or .rec into a csv format

Can be done with Applescript. XML are text files, just need to strip the tags and make the names/titles (which will be int the tags) Its just a parser.

    Dead Freezer

I haven't ohm'd out a compressor lately, but the VFD motors I work on nearly daily will read 1 ohm or less between windings. But best bet is google the compressor and get the manual for it.

    Angle Grinder for Keg

As cheap as these are I have several. They are cheap enough to have them set up for different applications. One for cut off, one for grinding, etc.

Tiny batches (1 gal/4l) Some Qs

Thanks guys! Had pondered the refractometer, but gotta work out the math for FG readings. (seen it here, but only glanced over it) Will stick with the dry yeasts for now, but the liquids have so many more varieties available. Other perk to tiny batches: Fewer bottles!

Tiny batches (1 gal/4l) Some Qs

Since I'm starting out would rather screw up a small batch. Plus more brewing fun. (I'm doing a bit lighter/session beers, OG=1.050ish) (used dry yeast and 1/2 a 11g packet per batch) With just a 1 gal batch, I don't want to pull out a lot of samples for a SG reading, so my theory is to...

    Pliny bottling nightmare tonight!

I just bottle with Revvy's idea of the wand right on the spigot. Its the Bee's Knees. One thing I might adjust is to add a small jog, to get the wand further away from the bucket (or in my case further away from the cabinet doors) The vintaor is great too, but think I'm going to use idsphor...

    fridge control question

Yup, what he said. A fridge typically has one system to run both. Don't expect the freezer to freeze. You might be able to cut a hole between the top and bottom section, drop a tote in there (held up by its lip in the freezer section. Fill it with water, and it can sorta serve as a...

    Priming sugar mixing it up?

Thanks again guys! Just bottled up my first batch. Made a few mistakes along the way. (my new rule, no drinking beer while brewing until the 15 minute mark :) ) I did the swirly deal, no stirring, cooled the sugar mix to about 90F

    Turn-key refrigerator/fermentation chamber for under $225?

I have a Haier wine fridge. Its a peltier junction system. The fans burnt out, replaced them, now the controller died. In the process of making my own controller (will be hard coded for temp) But its staying a wine cooler. The mini fridges I've been looking at for fermenting, all see to...

    Priming sugar mixing it up?

Thanks! I like the swirly idea. I did look at your OP on that thread, and *really* like the bottling wand set up! Also just picked up the bottle sanitizer. (and is 'average gravity beer' a real number or relative? <grin> This is more joking around then a real Q. Seems big gravity is...
