    Vinator

Use idophor over san star. The foam can get a bit unruley after a case of bottles.

Natural gas from house for turkey fryer?

From a safety point I have read that NG is safer then propane. Something about flash point and or air/fuel saturation levels or something like that. (forgot the details, just remembered the results) But brewing outside should present a prob. Unless in a garage on those rainy days.

    Ever infect a batch?

    Just curious.

    Chloramine removal

Well yeah. I meant that just leaving it untreated it wouldn't be removed by sitting out or being boiled. Regular Chlorine will evap off. But most city water is moving towards the chloramine because it doesn't evap off. They use less and can have safer water throughout the system.

    Ever infect a batch?

So has anyone infected a batch from poor sanitizing?

    Chloramine removal

I've been under the impression that clorine will evaporate out of the water (aquarium pump/air stone can help things along) But the Chloramine doesn't evaporate out of suspension.

Easy Readability and durability in Hydrometers

If you don't trust the refractometer for FG, it will still be good enough to tell if fermentation has stopped. I found this for the calc. It seems more acurate then most, and he briefly explains why. http://seanterrill.com/2010/06/11/refractometer-estimates-of-final-gravity/

    Fridge/Freezer for fermentation chamber

Yup, what RivverCityBrewer said. I just resurrected a spare I had in the shed for 3 years or so. The fan that circulates the air died, so the freezer was fine, but fridge section was warm. $65 later a new fan and its a happy camper. Now to build the temp control. The fridge air gets its...

    Where to buy metal

Only prob with scrapyards is you rarely know the alloy. Some weld nicely others you will fight with and never get it to weld nice.

CO2 Bottle PSI drop in Keezer?

I've seen a bottle or two leak at the bottle's valve. Its best to open then fully and 'backseat' them. (its rare, but happens, like getting a bottle of bad gas or miss-labeled gas)

    refractometer question?

I decided to use this one: http://seanterrill.com/2010/06/11/refractometer-estimates-of-final-gravity/ He goes into the typical formula and its margin of error. Then proceeds to work out a better formula with a much smaller error margin.

    Brew in bag?

Here's one (just not the one I first saw, can't find that one. They hung the bag from a ladder over the brew pot) http://c3.libsyn.com/media/18257/bbv04-15-10allwheat.mp4?nvb=20100617175325&nva=20100618180325&sid=f10eb6e800342afa9b03fbfba4e08942&t=098bf151f97ba7d494046

    Oxygenate before Pitching ...

Have heard it doesn't matter, before or after, as long as the after is right after; not 6 hours later.

    Building a Wort Chiller

Don't worry about the compression fittings. They can be better then soldered joints.

    Brew in bag?

So its a go then. Got my grain crusher (and other stuff) arriving today, and off for a bunch-o-ingredients today. Thanks guys. Does sound very encouraging. Just want to make a hanger for the bag to drain.

Tiny batches (1 gal/4l) Some Qs

I've been using 1 gal carboys/growlers. I just leave out about a beer's worth. One over flowed, other didn't. Oh FYI here is a *killer* spreadsheet for using a refractometer for TG. (though ABV part seems to be broke) http://seanterrill.com/2010/06/11/refractometer-estimates-of-final-gravity/

    food grade glue ?

Keep in mind the plastic pail (HDPE) we tend to use don't let most glues stick to them.

How much money and time does it take to build a "son of a fermentation chiller?"

Best thing to cut the foam board is (other then hot knife) an electric carving knife! Does wonders and cuts real clean. I was going to build one, but figured it would wind up being a hassle to keep going right (I travel a lot) and would wind up with a fridge solution anyways. So thats...

    Second ferm/racking

Great post! Thanks. Question: But if leaving it in primary for 4 weeks, the only reason for a SG reading would be get a ABV? Fermentation would almost have to be well over, no? (barring oddball brews) And would bottling from the primary fermenter give a few extra yeasties for carb'ing...
