I purchased this product from McMaster Carr and have used it on the last two brews. It seems to insulate very well, however it is quite fragile and tears easily when removing the insulation from the pot to chill the wort in an ice bath. Any little dribbles of wort down the outside of the pot...
I do my mash in a Coleman 28 qt. cooler with a CPVC manifold. I then runoff 5 gallons of wort to the pot.
After initially purchasing the cook top. I started with a 12 qt. pot, then went to a 16 qt. and was getting a boil in a reasonable of time. Then I saw some posts about insulating the...
I use a 1800w Max Burton cooktop, my pot is a clad bottom 22 qt. Better Homes & Gardens from Walmart. I boil a full 5 gallons on this cooktop. I have been so impressed by this cooktop, and the best part of it I got it for $69 at Amazon.com. I bought it a few months back and I think the price...
This is a 22 quart stock pot with 20 quarts of water that is boiling using a 1800 watt Max Burton induction cook top. It took 80 min. to achieve a rolling boil. The insulation is made by cutting up an automotive solar shade I got on clearance at Walmart for $6.

Good job on finding this product, I have ordered the 1/4 thickness and will wrap my pot with two layers. I have been thinking that I might put a layer of heavy duty foil between the two layers of foam. Does anybody have an opinion on this strategy?

Welcome to the world of US-05......I have been using it exclusively for my last 9 batches. I love the way it gets in there and gets the job done. All of my beers have tasted great. Typically am fermented out in 3-4 days on beers below .058 sg. and then I transfer to a secondary for about a week...
I have only used dry yeast since I started brewing and I have only used Safale Fermentis US 05. I have pitched it directly into my wort and stirred it in with a paddle. I have also re-hydrated it using ONLY TAP WATER! around the 90 degree range. The reason I only use tap water is the I do...
After reading these posts, I decided to check all my grains in my inventory all of which I bought from Midwest Supplies. I checked about 25 lbs. of assorted grains and all were nicely crushed. I have been quite pleased with all aspects of doing business with them.

This is my second attempt and partial grain brewing, the first is an APA in the secondary at this time.
This brew is my attempt at a Wee Heavy style.
I have made a mash tun out of a 28 qt. Coleman Extreme cooler and a simple 1/2" CPVC manifold running the perimeter of the base with aprox...
Thanks, I thought that was the yeast, but since this is the first time I have done this I just wasn't 100% sure. I do think on my next harvest I will let it set in my jars for a few days before pouring off the beer and rewashing.

Thanks, still not sure what I am looking at though. I filled these two jars directly from my primary after pouring about a pint of sterilized water into my primary and swishing it around to get as much of the yeast and trub into suspension as I could. I then filled these two 24oz. jars to the...
I just got through brewing a 1060 Amber Ale using US-05. I used one sachet and had a 1014 after 5 days in the primary. I had a very strong fermentation going within 8hrs. of pitching. I rehydrated the yeast before pitching. First time I used it I did not rehydrate and it took quite a bit longer...
Here is a pic of some US-05 I washed from primary. The brew was an Amber Ale. I have washed it twice with sterilized water and kept in the fridge total time since harvest is 4 days. I have three distinct layers that have settled out. A white creamy layer sandwiched between to brown layers. Do I...
