Mash efficiency is solid...problems reaching target OG after boil.

Learn something everyday. Once I put in my equipment way back - I just thought BS calculated everything from that and good to go. Apparently not. It had set my boil off to 1.15 per hr. Too high. Thanks!

Megapot is awesome...sooo much better than what I started with. Just curious - do you also have a edelmetall burner? My boil off is also just barely under a gallon an hour.

Mash efficiency is solid...problems reaching target OG after boil.

I have a MegaPot with the lines on it. SO how would I change the boil off rate in BS? beginning volume-end volume divided by minutes I suppose? Hav eto look and see where you enter that

Mash efficiency is solid...problems reaching target OG after boil.

I thought about using less sparge water...I like your idea about boiling 15 minutes prior to starting recipe. I wouldn't think that would affect flavors much, if at all. The main reason I am interested in perfecting this part is so my own recipes come out as consistent as possible, and my...

Mash efficiency is solid...problems reaching target OG after boil.

I am extracting sugars a little better than BeerSmith using my original equipment settings (AG 10 gal coolers standard false bottom etc.) BS has my target mash efficiency at 88.4%...however I am more like 91% according to preboil gravities So I am pretty satisfied with grain extraction. My...

Odd fermentation "reboot"...not seen with Safale 05 before

Yeah I should break it out. I'll admit I have not read gravity for the past 7-8 brews at least. I have my processes down to a science...I know. But that is what need to do here, although this is highly off the scale weird. It's first active fermentation before krausen fall was about 4 days...

Odd fermentation "reboot"...not seen with Safale 05 before

Here is a photo. Today is Friday, it has been pretty much exactly like this since Tuesday. A bubbler bloop about every 10-15 seconds. This was pitched 23 days ago. Smells wonderful...no discoloration in this "head"...very much like a really thin krausen.

Odd fermentation "reboot"...not seen with Safale 05 before

WHat I am concerned about now...and maybe someone will answer......should I leave it for several weeks again after this stops? That would be a total of about 6 weeks...that concerns me.

Odd fermentation "reboot"...not seen with Safale 05 before

I have seen a fermentation seemingly end, to only restart back up again several days later on high gravity brews, and Belgian Tripels I make. But this is a simple brown ale I have made 4-5 times at least, ABV usually finishes around 4.5%. I use a temp. controlled ex-refrigerator that during...

    American Wheat Beer Gumballhead Clone

This is a recipe I got from another thread, it's not even close to the real thing. Buuut...it is a very good summer wheat. I have some in bottles now. My most popular beer with the "non-IPA" crowd. 4 lbs. Rahr White Wheat Malt 4 lbs. Rahr 2 Row 1 lb. Dinglemans Cara 20 1 oz Amarillo 60 .5 oz...

Does it really get better than this?

Sitting here on the shaded back patio, about 3 pm...75 degrees outside on this glorious Sunday. The wife is with a couple friends at some craft bizarre or something...house to myself...sipping on my homebrew...slight breeze blowing, the two dogs are sleeping a few feet away...listening to The...

Hop stand method and hazy beer....advice...help?

Well here it is...it may be a little murky...but really good. Probably the best IPA I have made thus far.

Hop stand method and hazy beer....advice...help?

This might be the problem. I brewed both of these beers when it was too cold outside to run the outside tap so I improvise by using a steelhead pump to recirculate water using the hot liquor tank with 3-4 "ice cubes" made using gallon milk jugs. But the ice melts (obviously) very fast and the...

Hop stand method and hazy beer....advice...help?

I just finished trying the first bottle of the 2nd beer where I have used the hop stand method. 1) If you haven't tried hop standing - do so!! It produces outstanding hop flavors! In all of the IPA's I have made, they have gotten better...even damn good. But never quite as good as commercial...

Rule# 1 - Don't create threads when your half drunk. It usually doesn't work out. Note to self. :o
