Brew in a Basket...anybody try one of these?

https://utahbiodieselsupply.com/brewingfilters.php#biab Seems like a good idea?

Almost ready to switch to BIAB, recipe question...

Another question...I have one of those kettle strainers left from the turkey fryer kit I started out on before I got a better kettle - anyhow...I see plenty of folks using these to place the grain bag in. Which certainly eases lifting ut of the kettle...but it looks too small to me, I would...

Almost ready to switch to BIAB, recipe question...

Thanks, I have been doing AG for several years..so kinda beyond that, I just noticed that NB had BIAB recipes...can't believe I didn't notice they were only 3-3.5 gallon batches

Almost ready to switch to BIAB, recipe question...

On NB - I notice there are BIAB recipes, why would the recipe change between AG and BIAB? Why would the grain bill change? Thanks.

    bottle or let mature

Generally speaking, IMHO - more time is better than less time in nearly all things brewing. Except maybe hop timing. I learned pretty early on that rushing anything in the process is the best way to ruin success.

Naming a beer, does it matter?

I guess I have boring names also... Honey Pale Ale Summer Wheat Black IPA etc. I have named our garage "Tall Boys Brewing" - I am 6'4" and my son is 6'5"...sooo Tall Boys Honey Pale Ale and so on.

    Hot Water Urns

Hmmm...I have a different idea to use one of these. Preheating mash/sparge water. These heat water to about 195-200 degrees. SO I would have about 2.5 gallons at 195 degrees. Using a water calculator, if I add in 2 gallons of 68 degree water the result is 135 degree water. Hmmm

    Bottle-to-bottle differences in carbonation

I was getting this bad until I changed one thing: I stopped using Oxyclean. Oxyclean is inherently hard to rinse off and any residue left is harmful to the yeast. Switching back to Easyclean long ago ended the problem for me. Also when I rack I cut the hose so it is long enough to curl around...

    Feedback in this recipe

There are folks here better at picking yeast than me, but for what it is worth nottingham is pretty versatile and forgiving. I don't think that is a bad choice myself. I used Safale 05 a lot for general brews like this, it is a beast. Extremely hardy and forgiving and of course very clean finish...

This brewing is a lot of work....

Well thankfully she also enjoys craft beer, so she reaps the benefits that way - also I keep a few of her favorites in rotation for obvious reasons. But honestly she has been great...I am a happier person now. Doing something you really like to do as often as we all do it makes us better...

This brewing is a lot of work....

Hahaha...was reading through some of my first threads here. Funny stuff. I thought $800 was a lot of money spent on this great hobby of ours!! lololol The garage I was just cleaning up back then...is now a complete brew- man cave. I bought a yard barn to put lawn mowers and crap in so the...

If you are wanting to make a malty beer...then I think you will get just that. Vienna as base and adding Munich to that will for sure be a malty beer

Made the ultra rookie mistake today

This exact same thing happened to me last year, only I didn't crush the grains, I bought them crushed from northern brewer...somebody got a little carried away - anyhow it turned to concrete. I had to dump out the mash tun into a large plastic bin I have TWICE to get past complete stuck sparges...

Crazy bubbler...never seen this before (video)

Holy Cow...never saw this much bubbling before! The color of the liquid is due to me using cinnamon vodka, I usually use StarSan water - but it bubbled out over the bubbler itself. https://youtu.be/VKgM0PPry_s

    Preheating water night before brewing

Hmm...why didn't I think of that? The reason for me even wanting to do this is I am now brewing by myself...which is not easy when you have arthritis in both knees and shoulder...hands...but that is another story. My son always brewed with me but is back in college now. Anyhow...anything I...

    Preheating water night before brewing

Yeah that's the problem...Rubbermaid does not even recommend using a cooler for a mash tun period. They flat out say it is made for keeping liquid cold, not hot. And I quote.. "Our water coolers are designed for keeping liquids cold and are not tested or designed for use with hot liquids. Please...

    Preheating water night before brewing

(using cooler for mashing) Is there any risk of picking up "plastic" or any off flavors if one preheated water within max temp for their cooler and store overnight as another step to shorten brew day? Especially during the winter, sure would be quicker to heat 140 degree water than 57-62...

Mash efficiency is solid...problems reaching target OG after boil.

Awesome!! After reading this, and changing Beersmith specs, I have since made 2 more brews. My gravity for both was within .004...and that is obviously acceptable for homebrewing. Thank you!!
