Witbier Blue Balls Belgian Wit (Blue Moon Clone)

Do you still get any of the coriander flavor? I guess I'm just starting to worry a bit. I really want this beer to turn out well.

Witbier Blue Balls Belgian Wit (Blue Moon Clone)

I just brewed this today but my OG was 1.050. Pre-boil was 1.040. Maybe I missed it because I scaled it down to 5 gallons? Also, I think I should've crushed the coriander seeds, right? I just threw them in whole. Hopefully it will still turn out decent.

Just bought the 15lb Barley Crusher

Barley Crusher was finally shipped out today. Ordered it on January 25th. I'll sure be glad once it arrives.

Just bought the 15lb Barley Crusher

I know he's busy but he (or their "customer service") needs to respond. I mean you drop $130+ on something you'd expect halfway decent customer service, right? At least update the website with a realistic lead time and stop misleading customers. Even though they said it would ship out this...

Just bought the 15lb Barley Crusher

Just got an email back from BC - my order will be shipping out tomorrow morning. I just finished brewing a Foreign Extra Stout today, now I'll have an excuse to brew another batch this coming weekend since my BC will hopefully be here by then.

Just bought the 15lb Barley Crusher

Does anyone know the phone number for the Barley Crusher company? It's not listed on their site. I've emailed again asking approximately when it might ship and still no response. Maybe I'd get an answer if I just called them up.

    Barley Crusher CHEAP!!!

I ordered the 7lb model from the manufacturer last Tuesday (9 days ago) and still haven't seen a shipping confirmation email. Emailed the guy twice with no response at all. It's getting frustrating...

Just bought the 15lb Barley Crusher

I just bought the 7lb BC as well. Can't wait to start using it. The lack of response from Randy there is really aggravating though. I've sent him three emails and no response. All I want to know is if it's going to be here by this weekend, didn't think it was a tough question. Still waiting on...

    Who's brewing today?

I brewed the Boont Amber Ale from Beer Captured today. I did AG but missed the OG by 9 points...mine was 1.050 and should've been 1.059. The last three batches have been half batches at 2.5 gallons each and every OG has been off by a significant amount. When I was doing 5 gallon batches I'd...

First time making a starter...is mine good?

That's what the sediment looks like. I thought maybe it could be DME that has dropped out of solution as well. Hopefully the sanitizer solution didn't kill the yeast. I made it stronger than usual. If it can kill bacteria I'm sure it can kill yeast. Oh well, I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

First time making a starter...is mine good?

I made a starter on Thursday night using 1/2 cup DME and 1 qt water. I used WLP002 English Ale. Boiled for 15 minutes, cooled to 70F, pitched the vial. Placed a piece of sanitized foil over the top of the growler and shook like crazy. At first I put an airlock on it filled with One Step solution...

6 Stone Clone recipes in Dec. 08's BYO Mag

I'm brewing up the Stone IPA recipe (all-grain) this weekend. Decided to go with 20L crystal. How does one get 15L crystal when they don't even make it? Just do a 50/50 of 10L and 20L? I'm looking forward to this brew. Came close to pulling the trigger on the Ruination but I'll wait until...

    Heating a small space

I have a small heat pad (my wife let me borrow) that I wrapped around my fermenter this morning. It's a hefeweizen that I brewed yesterday that I'm trying to get up to around 75F. Right now it's 73F, working like a charm so far.

Do you factor in rice hulls as part of the grain bill?

Great, that answers my question. Though I wouldn't think that the hulls themselves would absorb water. I guess they do after all. Thanks.

Do you factor in rice hulls as part of the grain bill?

Since it only serves a filtering purpose should I factor it in? There are no fermentables in rice hulls, right? I'm going to brew the Franziskaner clone in Beer Captured on Thursday night I think. Has anyone tried it? How is it? I may use the Danstar Munich dry yeast. Or should I spring for a...

    AG brew weekend

I have an update on the stout....turned out great. I'm drinking it as I type. Nice frothy head, creamy, dry, roasty, a little thin (mashed low), not a hint of metallic taste at all. I just kegged and force carbonated about an hour ago...I couldn't wait any longer. Tastes so good for such a...

    First batch of All-Grain complete!

There is a Boddington's clone recipe in Beer Captured, I've never tried it though. I thought there was also a Kilkenny's clone in there too, not positive. I'll let you know how my stout turns out, since it is so similar to yours. I racked to the secondary yesterday, should be ready this...

    First batch of All-Grain complete!

That recipe looks very similar to the Guinness "clone" I did last week. I'll probably rack to the secondary later tonight. I only used a half pound of roasted barley for mine and increased the 2-row. I don't know if Irish moss is really necessary as it's a stout and really won't matter to clear...

    AG brew weekend

I have an update, I just tasted the mild ale and it has absolutely no metallic taste to it. It actually smells and tastes really good. Very nutty flavor, some slight bitterness. Krausen is completely gone. SG is 1.014, recipe says it should finish at 1.007. Maybe I'll move it upstairs tonight to...

    AG brew weekend

Yeah, hot tap water even smells odd. I've never used hot tap water before. I replaced the water heater 2 years ago so it's fairly new. We have moderately hard water. Here is the recipe I used: 6 lbs 2-row pale (Briess) 1.6 lbs flaked barley (Muntons) 0.5 lbs roasted barley (Muntons) 2 oz...
