    Brewjacket Immersion Pro

I use Iodophor. It works out to 1ml to an average sized spray bottle. Then prior to inserting the rod I just spray it down for a few minutes. Seems to work. No bad batches so far. Using 1ml at a time is quite cheap.

Keezer build - having trouble finding wood. Suggestions?

You can get dimensional hardwood from the big box stores, but it is usually thinner stock and rather expensive. Generally, most hardwoods are sold as rough stock. If you go to a hardwood dealer you will find what you need. It will be sold by the board foot with a thickness in quarters of an...

    Buying a Mill, Game Changer?

In my experience, having a mill is game changing if you BIAB. You can set your mill tighter and get a better crush that you need for for BIAB which your LHBS is not going to give you. For regular all grain brewing this is not so much of a consideration. However, as was mentioned, being able to...

Great additional info. Thanks a bunch. I'm glad that it worked out well.

What came in the mail for you today?

Me too. It was great. Chop and Brew is pretty good, but I really preferred Brewing TV. So, what drew me to the book, other than Michael Dawson being the author, was that it seemed to indicate that it was going to be somewhat of teaching tool. I expected it to give a recipe and then explain what...

    Kettle question

That was supposed to say pouring out or siphoning. Stupid missing or makes me sound like a moron.

    Kettle question

This is only my opinion. The kettle is probably fine for starting out. However, with a pot that big you don't really want to be pouring out siphoning. I would at a minimum recommend adding a drain spigot. You didn't say specifically what the pot is for, but if you are looking for a general...

    Cost of CO2?!?

For a 5 pound tank, Airgas tank swap near Birmingham, AL is $28. Refill at LHBS is $12.

    Best Device for Bottling

Same amount in every glass...a keg. Bwahahaha. Sorry, I'm pretty drunk. As was said, if you just use the bottling want and basically fill until the liquid starts to run over, then withdraw the wand, each bottle will have the same headspace, basically the volume of the wand removed from the bottle.

    Beginner kegging carbonation issue

Oh by the way, do you guys do a competition every meeting or was this a special occasion. We have monthly meetings where we have a beer style theme and try each others, but we don't compete per se.

    Hillbilly HERMS

That is awesome. I will have to try it. I will still have to get/make a copper coil. I have a hydra chiller, but I don't think I want to have wort buildup in it. Oh, I guess I need a pump too. Maybe I'll get to it at some point. Did you set your sous vide to the exact temp you wanted the mash...

    Question about Chillers

I have always used a chiller, but there are apparently a lot of folks who do let it cool naturally and are very happy doing it that way. I think some folks have a sealed container that they transfer to and let in cool in there. I'm sure others will have much more information.

    Beginner kegging carbonation issue

Yeah, you will want to keep pressure on it all of the time. You can search google for a beer carbonation chart and it will tell you what pressure to use for a given temperature and desired carbonation level. At most common beer storage temps in a refrigerator 12 psi should have got you a decent...

So, when mashing I assume you will move the hose from the HLT to the outlet of the mash tun. Then you will recirculate through the coil in the pot with the sous vide circulator. Let us know how this works. As the owner of the exact same sous vide cooker I will be interested to know if it can...

    Minimizing the krausen?

I use fermcap in my fermenter. Seems to work very well. The trick though, from what I've seen, is that you need to wait to add it until you have an active fermentation. If you add it at pitch time it will settle out before fermentation starts. If you add it during active fermentation the...

    Brewjacket Immersion Pro

So, I purchased two of them a while back, when the were doing pre-orders. It took them quite a while past the advertised "Shipping In..." date for them to actually ship. I have used them in numerous batches in 7.5 gallon plastic bucket fermenters. They have worked quite well at controlling...
