So, how did you proceed? Have you bottled it up?

Soapy taste in beer - almost solved - getting close

Is it possible that the second keg filled had a bunch of sediment (yeast and trub and crap) that the first did not have. Then maybe that keg had yeast autolysis which caused the soapiness in that keg?

    Wort oxygenation equation?

So, based on the variations of formulas and general emperical data, it seems like there is a fairly wide range of possible "right" answers to flow rates needed for proper oxygenation. Short of using a DO meter we may never know for sure. I have heard that over oxygenating can be bad. Do we...

    Wort oxygenation equation?

Thank you @day_trippr. I realize that I am in way over my head, unless a yeastwortoxyoligst want's to jump in here with the definitively correct formula. I guess moving forward I will just use the empirical data, not even mine at that. I know that my last batch I did a 1 liter/minute and it...

    Wort oxygenation equation?

I've been messing around with this myself, trying to come up with the time in seconds at a certain flow rate to hit a specific O2 saturation. I actually started out working my calculations based on mass alone. This entailed coming up with the grams of a V sized batch of wort at a certain...

SHOW OFF: Basement Brewery cleaning sinks

@mongoose33 haha, I got ya. I've been through a bunch of bottles too, which is bad since I only keep two around, one for StarSan and one for Iodophor. I like your RO water for spray bottles idea. I'll have to try that out. Thanks..

SHOW OFF: Basement Brewery cleaning sinks

Dude, nice setup. I wish I had a sink in my brew area. I do have to say though that I have never seen so many spray bottles next to a hot pink thermapen.

    Hi from central Alabama

Near Birmingham. I use Alabrew in Pelham. They have a pretty solid selection. CO2 refills are much cheaper there than at a welding supply store. Good place to get whole bags of grains.

quick question regarding 15 Gallon Unitank

This is regarding their Chronical not the Unitank, but maybe it is of use. https://ssbrewtech.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202239599-Can-I-do-5-gallon-batches-in-the-14-Gallon-Chronical-.

    Beginner Questions

I think the 2 weeks in the fermenter is more of a general "safe" time that they can put in the instructions. After 2 weeks you are pretty much always safe. Once you bottle it will take some time for the beer to carbonate, maybe not two weeks, but again you are probably "safe" after 2 weeks. You...

Beginner question regarding SS BREWTECH UNITANK

While I do not own one (wish I did), I do believe that one of the things the unitank offers is that you can use it as a brite tank and carbonate and serve directly from the tank. To me the only downside would be that you are tying up your expensive fermenter that could be making more batches...

    Beginner Questions

Just looks like krausen from when your fermentation was very active. Looks normal to me. My guess is that you will be in good shape. Do make sure to keep it covered or in the dark in some manner as light is no good.

    Refractometer: Correct Version...?

I have one as above with both Brix and SG scales. I personally only use the Brix scale. The reason for that is that you have to make conversions based on your reading anyway, especially for fermenting wort and FG. I use BeerSmith for this purpose. The calculator(s) in Beersmith use a Brix...

    Considering a tower

Beernik, good photo, thanks for sharing. I feel better that I won't have a sheet of water pouring off the top of the refrigerator.

    Considering a tower

Day_trippr, great info, thanks. I like the idea of blowing the cold air up a hose to the top of the tower and letting it flow back out. That seems like it would be much more efficient that just blowing air at the bottom of the tower. What kind of a blower did you find that could be attached to a...

    Considering a tower

Hey guys, So, I have a commercial undercounter fridge that I use as a "keegerator" or something. It will hold three corny kegs and a CO2 tank (I only have two at the moment). Currently I just have picnic taps on these, and I open the door whenever I want a pour. It is basically a large cooler...

    MLT size vs Batches

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. I was wondering though, when you say that you love the clarity from the infussion, does that mean that you have better clarity because you are recirculating on it and not the igloo, or is there something else? Thanks.

Atlanta/Alpharetta/Birmingham best places to find beer?

As far as Birmingham goes: From Avondale I like Miss Fancy's Belgian triple, Spring Street Saison, and Vanillaphant porter (if you are in the mood for a desert beer). I'm not much of a fan of Good People, but if you like IPAs, their Snake Handler is fun to play around with. About 25 miles south...
