    Bad brew day

That is a bummer, and a new one on me with star sanning the arm. I love it. Just be glad you don't use iodophor.

    Bad brew day

There is certainly truth in that. I've gotten kind of in a groove lately with no problems to speak of. I probably needed this to shake me up a bit and get me focused. Oh yeah, it was a vinyl piece of tubing. I should clamp it or probably replace it.

Thanks. I sure hope so. This was one of the more expensive ingredient lists I have done. I sure would hate to waste it. I will research the yeast. Thanks again.

    Bad brew day

I decided to brew an Oatmeal Stout on Saturday. Issues: 1. My buddy stirred the mash and knocked the hose going to the screen off of the screen. We had to dump the mash into buckets, clean the mash tun, reassemble, reload the mash tun, and restart lautering. 2. While cleaning the boil kettle...

    Finally got a tower

Haha, that's awesome. I wish I had a good eye. I have a buddy that was a brick layer that gives me grief all the time because I can never tell if something is level or not by eye. You're right. Some plumbing skills definitely help in homebrewing from time to time. That coil sounds serious. I'd...

    Finally got a tower

My dad was the Master. He would tell you that rule number 3 is that the boss is a SOB. Right behind #1 cold is on the right and #2 certain stuff flows downhill. He was a total folding ruler guy. I always admired it, I just couldn't do it.

    Finally got a tower

Update. I just checked. My stainless shell is actually 1/16" or so thick. I'm not sure I would have made it through if it had been 1/8".

    Finally got a tower

Yeah, on mine there is a layer of stainless (maybe 1/8 inch thick), about 2 1/2 inches of foam, and then mine has a plastic shell on the inside. I got a 3" hole saw and drilled it out. I just took my time and sprayed it with some water from time to time to cool it. I did not use the bolts that...

    Finally got a tower

So, I've been using this fridge for a while as a kegerator, just using picnic taps inside and opening the door for a pour. I finally decided to add a tower. I purchased the three tap tower with flow control Intertaps from Williams Brewing. Everything went very well. It had everything I needed...

    Beginner Questions

Hey, Awesome!!! That's the spirit. I can remember when I first started, looking at that nasty bunch of bubbling, chunky, foamy crap in the carboy and thinking "there is no way that this is fit for human consumption". But then after opening the first bottle being like, "holy cow. I can't believe...

Which beer faucets do you prefer and why?

Hey arsenic. I've been following the thread and just read this, so I went back to try and see what might have been the catalyst for this. After rereading the whole thread, I'm thinking that it must have been my comment. I can see where what I said may have seemed like I was making light of...

    Downsizing advice

Interesting question. The only small batches I have ever done were extract, which a 5 gallon pot would be more than big enough for. If you are doing 3 gal BIAB, I am not sure what size pot you would need. It seems like 5 gallons would still work (barely) unless you were making a big beer. That...

    Downsizing advice

Without a basement or garage, does that mean that the question is that you cannot do all grain any longer or does it mean that you don't have room for all of the larger kettles and such that you used to use and are looking for smaller all grain alternatives? If this: means that you still have...

Which beer faucets do you prefer and why?

I have never used any faucets, but I just ordered some Intertap flow control faucets, so they must clearly be better....right? I refrained from voting as I have no idea what I am talking about.

Soapy taste in beer - almost solved - getting close

You don't by chance live with someone that is a practical joker do you. I could just see someone sneaking down to the basement late at night with some Dawn dish washing liquid.

    Wort oxygenation equation?

    Good point.

    Wort oxygenation equation?

Thanks @Robert65, speaking for myself, I think that is how I am going to proceed.

Soapy taste in beer - almost solved - getting close

Cool. Just thought I would ask. I am very interested to see what you find out.
