    Brewsmith 2 Mashout water/grain ratio

I just downloaded the new patch and it did not help. The mash out qt./lb. seems to change with different mash temperatures. I'm not very well versed on that, so I will have to read up. Any other advice would be well appreciated. If I choose no mash out, I will have plenty of sparge water based...

    Brewsmith 2 Mashout water/grain ratio

I noticed in Beersmith 2 that I have been figuring really low fly sparge amounts. I have never had this in Beersmith 1, or just didn't pay attention to it. I have enough room in my cooler to mash out and I usually fly sparge after the mash out. After my last figuring of a Breakfast stout with...

    keg homebrew in competition

Yes, but when I turn the brews into the competition, they will be stored at room temperature, correct? That is when I am worried; going from 40 to room temp.

    keg homebrew in competition

I am entering a couple of my homebrews in a local competition. This is my first time entering a homebrew competition. I bottled up some of my homebrew from my keg and got to wondering about temperature changes effecting the brew. It has been aging in the keg for a few weeks at 40 degrees. After...

Imperial IPA Recipe Critique- 1st attempt at an IIPA

Why would Brewsmith only have me sparging with 1/2 gallon of water with this recipe?

    Black Cherry Porter

Since this thread has been brought back to life, my question would be; does the dried fruit float in the keg?

Imperial IPA Recipe Critique- 1st attempt at an IIPA

One more thing- It looks like I will have to use 2 vials of WLP001 and a starter with a OG of 1.099. Is there any way around me having to buy 2 vials of yeast besides the obvious and dropping the OG? That gets expensive!!

Imperial IPA Recipe Critique- 1st attempt at an IIPA

Okay; modified the crystal to 1/2 lb each of 40L and 60L. Got rid of the 30 minute hop and added an ounce at 10 minutes and doubled my hop addition at 15 minutes. Also doubled my sugar addition at 5 minutes. Can anyone tell me why Brewsmith only has me sparging with 1/2 gallon of water? Here is...

Imperial IPA Recipe Critique- 1st attempt at an IIPA

Thanks so far! I will def. reduce the crystal and move the 30 minute hops to 10 minute. May leave a small amount at 30 still. I have never used chinook or nugget in an IPA before, but I was able to buy about 1/2 pound whole leaf of each(chinook and nugget) at a brew fest from a local hop grower...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I brewed this yesterday following the recipe and adding some extra H2O for the pumpkin. I had 2 problems; the 1st problem is that my boil off was way more then usual. I started with 6.5 gallons for the 5 gallon final product which is about my normal during a brew, and I was almost a gallon short...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

My same exact question! Thanks for the answer in advance!! Our oven broke Friday (something electrical) and the warranty service guy will not be fixing it until Wednesday! This really put a question in my head to just throw the pumpkin in without baking it since my brew day is today! After...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Reno, I use mash out; so right now Beersmith has me at 16.25 qts. of water for mash in and 9.10 qts. of water for mash out. Then 2 gallons of sparge. Would you suggest 24 qts of water at mash in and then keep the rest of the schedule? It seems like 2 extra gallons of water would be way too much...
