Advice on reusing yeast for a 2nd batch?

From my research and experience here is my process. When you go to secondary or keg your beer leave just enough beer to cover the yeast cake. It helps if you cold crash before transferring your beer. Swirl the beer and yeast slurry then pour into sanitized mason jars. Make sure to use Mason jars...

    First White Stout Attempt

Dont heat it as that will bring out bitterness. As long as you sanitized your container you should be just fine

    First White Stout Attempt

That should okay. The amount of beans and time of extraction are the important factors. The yield doesn't matter much as it will only determine concentration.

How to create a 'balanced' IPA?

Hey I'm all for whatever great beer can be made!

How to create a 'balanced' IPA?

You might be right, regardless its classic american "c" hop presented a little more more balanced. I think it would complement an English IPA grain bill while still bringing a prominent american component.

How to create a 'balanced' IPA?

Exactly! You could use an english IPA grain bill and substitute american hops. It's not an american hop but mandarina bavaria is cross bred from citra and a german noble hop. I have a pale ale on tap using it. It's a toned down classic american ipa flavor hop.

How to create a 'balanced' IPA?

I was going to suggest an english IPA as well. It is much more balanced the an american IPA and the hops used are much more palatable.

Are you entering the AHA National Homebrew Competition? Why? Why Not?

This is my first year entering my beers. I have 3 going out: a belgian tripel, pineapple weissbier and an IPA. I've never entered a comp due to a little hesitancy and the fact that the beers seemed to be judged on a narrow view of a particular style. I've become more confident in my beer this...

    First White Stout Attempt

I've done many coffee beers as I am also a coffee roaster and nerd. My preferred method is to use around 4-5oz of FRESH coffee beans in a cold toddy (for a 5 gal batch of beer). You grind the beans as coarsely as possible and add around 3 cups of water. Keep in the fridge for roughly 12-18 hours...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

Damn Liverpool. Golden opportunity squandered. Very nervy next 14 EPL matches ahead.

What silly things frugal brewers do!

I think silly would be the habits you have formed that may benefit one of your efficiencies but to a much smaller degree that it would benefit another efficiency. Therefore, making the decision silly.

It's a sad day, Man U have no where to go but up from here. Us Liverpool supporters were Mou's biggest fans. No one could squander such talented players like he could.

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

Hi everyone! Just wanted to say how and introduce myself. I'm a homebrewer and soccer fan so this thread sounds about perfect. I've been brewing since 2012 and a Liverpool supporter since 2006. It has certainly been a good day today [emoji16]

    Building a starter

I think you should error on the side of overpitching and purchase the extra yeast packets. Your new yeast calculator predictions sound accurate. If you can do a stir plate that is preferable but not necessary.

    Building a starter

Without knowing your OG and FG I would say that seems high but possible. I brew 10g batches as well and I would highly recommend getting a 5L flask and repitching your yeast. I can usually make 3L starter using yeast I harvested from a previous batch. I dont worry about decanting that amount...
