    www.fiftypoundsack.com - cheap bulk grain

No I didn't. I was actually comparing Rahr 2-Row across both sources. He brought up the Maltteurop 2-Row which is the cheapest grain on their site and the only thing they sell under $60.

Maybe you should go back and read what I wrote before commenting. I said ROUGHLY $25 and I acknowledged that the allocated shipping rate on a pallet can't be expected to apply to a single sack residential shipment. There is exactly one item that is $59 shipped on that site. Most everything...

South Jersey/Philly Group Buy... ROUND 13!

When is round 14 coming? I'd love to get in on one of these. Does everyone just meet at a loading dock somewhere one night to split up the pallet? Reason I ask is I'm usually out of town for work Mon-Thurs every week, so having to show up at a particular time on a Wednesday would be...

Maybe we need a new thread entitled, how homebrewers can get bulk grains for less. I mean, we all know the prices the maltsters charge for bulk orders based on the group buy sheets - roughly $25 for a 55lb sack of 2-row plus $3-4 in allocated shipping. I get that freight shipping by pallet...

    Conical Fermenter?

Like kanzi said, yeast harvesting is the primary benefit, along with their size (you can get them from 7-42+ gallons), and the bling factor. I'd love to have one. But with buckets costing $10, BB carboys $30, and glass carboys $40, it's kind of hard to justify spending $600-$900 on a stainless...

    www.fiftypoundsack.com - cheap bulk grain

A lot of people keep saying to just buy bulk grains from your LHBS because it's cheaper. My experience with LHBS is that most of them aren't real interested in selling you 55lb sacks. They want to sell it to you by the pound at retail prices. Of course, most of the LHBS places I've been to...

    www.fiftypoundsack.com - cheap bulk grain

The whole situation makes no sense. The homebrew market is huge. Someone needs to figure out how to make bulk grain purchases cheap and easy without requiring group buys. I can go to Amazon.com, order a 40lb bag of dry dog food, pay the exact same price as I get at my local pet store ($35-40)...

Awesome idea, but their recent price increases basically kill it.

    Rushing into All Grain?

This. I brewed two extract batches and then immediately bought a 10 gal Rubbermaid mash tun and jumped into AG. Never looked back. I do a single temp infusion mash and a batch sparge. It's ridiculously easy. I don't know why people think it's so hard, it's not. Add grain to cooler, add hot...

    Blichmann Kettles

I just got a 10 gl Boilermaker and used it for the first time last weekend. I love it. Beats the hell out of pouring from my turkey fryer pot through a strainer into a funnel. I'd just get the thing fully outfitted and ready to go personally.

    Beer from crystal malt only

That would perhaps up the amount of fermentables, but the final product still isn't going to taste all that great. I'm still not understanding the point of this exercise.

    Pump????

Just get a coupler, and turn the male into female: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/304-stainless-1-2-coupling.html

How careful should one be about sanitation?

That sounds like a little bit of an exaggeration. I'm sure it happened, but I doubt it was that extreme. I'm not suggesting doing it that way, just that people get a little crazy with wanting to sanitize the tops of distilled water bottles and such.

How careful should one be about sanitation?

It's extremely important. Bear in mind, however, that people were brewing beer hundreds of years ago when: there was no such thing as sanitizer, the only cleanser was soap made from animal fat and lye (made by running water through wood ashes), they didn't have airlocks, fermentation was done...

    Success!

Drinking first all grain brew as I'm watching the superbowl. This is also my first kegged brew. I've done a few extract brews, and this AG brew is way smoother (no twang to it) with way better body/mouthfeel. Recipe was: English Pale Ale 10lb Maris Otter Pale Malt 1/2 lb Crystal...

    Minimum time to force carb

I kegged first thing this morning. I'm hoping to have some carb in time for the Superbowl as well. I keep shaking the thing like every half hour and I have both valves wide open.

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

I googled it and apparently it's the sound of water dripping on the hot coil when it cycles through defrost mode. It's normal.

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

SO I have the fridge setup now and I'm a little worried because it's making an odd noise. When it's running, in addition to the motor, I can hear what sounds like a hissing noise plus the sound of liquid flowing. It's definitely staying cold, and I don't see or smell any coolant leaks, but the...

    CO2 refills in Central NJ?

I just stopped by Camden Bar and Restaurant. Very friendly service, took less than 5 minutes to fill while I waited. $18.95. Also, it's not actually in Camden. I would highly recommend them.

Best AVAILABLE mini fridge for corny kegs

Dammit, I wish I had done that. I thought about it when I was at the store, but it was late and the wife and kids were in the car outside. Anyway, I am going to follow your buildout instructions/pics. Any further tips after having done it?
