Makeshift carboy cap for secondary..NEED HELP!

SO... I transferred my brew to a secondary today and am prepping to make something tonight when I realized that I only have one carboy cap. So, I ran to the local brew store (took an hour because of traffic) and got another cap and an airlock. Simple, right? I got home and realized that...

Gonna brew a honey basil ale and have a question...

Hey everyone... I'm going to begin the brewing process for my third brew...a honey basil ale. Take a look at the recipe below...I have all of the ingredients. Except, I have fresh basil, and not SWEET BASIL. The question I have is, should I steep the basil, or should I just toss it in...

Just cracked open a bottle from first brew...thoughts...

So it would be beneficial for them to be sitting in a dark room at 70 degrees instead of 65?

Just cracked open a bottle from first brew...thoughts...

They're not at 70 degrees...probably 65. Will that be sufficient?

Just cracked open a bottle from first brew...thoughts...

I just cracked open a bottle from my first brew, an abbey ale that has been sitting in bottles for 6 days... Initial thoughts: It definitely tastes like beer. It has strong flavor. It is very strong tasting. I'm not sure why. It doesn't have any bubbles shooting up from the bottom of...

Anyone know how to make, or have labels made?

Guys, I have a brew bottled that I want to have a few labels made for. I am naming the brew after my brother's daughter who was just born...the first in the generation. Anyone know where to have decent labels made for a good price?

80 hours in, light krausen, little bubbling, NOTHING THROUGH BLOW OFF!

Ok, thanks everyone. Staying patient. But, just have lots of questions. Im learning that no brew is going to react the same way as any other brew, unless it's the same and everything is done the same way. And even then it might not. It is currently sitting at about 66-68 degrees. Cool and...

80 hours in, light krausen, little bubbling, NOTHING THROUGH BLOW OFF!

Alright... I'm about 80 hours in to my wheat brew. It still stinks like crazy, there is some krausen growing. But, there has been nothing to go through the blow off. Is this normal? Do some brews send nothing through the blow off? What should I expect over the next two weeks in the...

Second Brew going...but is beginning to smell a bit at 40 hours.

LOL! I'm not sure how I can smell bitter...but whatever I smell is like rotten eggs. I have enough confidence now that this may be normal and I will just leave it.

Second Brew going...but is beginning to smell a bit at 40 hours.

Okay.... Thanks to everyone who has posted on this. To be honest this smell turns me off to wheat beers...until I taste another good one that is! Which hopefully will be later tonight! I will wait, and then wait some more... One other question...Is it normal that after 60 hours nothing has...

Second Brew going...but is beginning to smell a bit at 40 hours.

I know I know, I've already posted about this... but how long will it smell the way it does? when will I know if it's not any good? should it be chunky and weird colored? Chris

Second Brew going...but is beginning to smell a bit at 40 hours.

The only thing I could think of that I may have taken a short cut on is that I cleaned and sanitized my bottling bucket on Monday night, and then didn't re-clean/sanitize on Tuesday night before I used the bottling bucket to transfer the wort from the stove to the carboy. I don't have a...

Second Brew going...but is beginning to smell a bit at 40 hours.

So it is normal that it has a somewhat weird smell? My first brew never omitted a smell like this. Granted, this is a different beer, with a liquid yeast...

Second Brew going...but is beginning to smell a bit at 40 hours.

So...I was excited because my blue moon esque brew has begun to ferment. However, I just checked on it (40 hours in carboy) and decided to open the carboy. I took the rubber lid off and thought it smelled quite bitter. There is foam and bubbling and so forth. But, it doesn't smell...
