    First Post & a problem

There isn't much that would prevent me from drinking beer, but broken glass does the trick. Do-Over; play taps as you dump it down the drain. That's what I would do anyway. :(

    Brewed my Second Batch

Amen! My challenge is brewing it faster than I can drink it...we all can dream, right? :cross:

Just brewed my first non Mr. Beer batch.... Yesterday

2 weeks ago I got a low og reading because I did not mix the "top off" water into the wort very well. If you are using extract kits, and you followed the directions, you can trust the og that your kit advertises. :mug:

Why is my beer getting sour after a few weeks in the bottle?

Noob here... if it gets worse over time, are your caps sealed properly?

First Brew and No Bubbles in Airlock...

I had this same concern 2 weeks ago, and it worked out fine. As you will hear repeatedly here, and as you will soon be telling others, airlock activity is not your fermentation gauge. My first 2 5-gal brews bubbled like crazy right away. My 3rd...nothing. But 2 weeks later, I measured the...

    Airlock's Little Plastic Cap

No, no balloons. But if the Mr. Beer cap doesn't look stable, I'll try the aluminum foil/rubberband method. Thanks again everyone! :mug:

    Airlock's Little Plastic Cap

Thanks, guys! I have unused Mr. Beer plastic bottle caps that would easily fit over the top without falling off. I'll poke a few holes in the top of that, then sanitize. :mug:

    Airlock's Little Plastic Cap

Today is brew day, and I have somehow misplaced the little plastic cap for my 1 piece, s shaped airlock. Can I leave the top of the airlock exposed, or should I cover it some other way? Thanks! (Northern Brewer Chinook IPA etract, by the way.)

It's Saturday Brewday - Watchya Makin?

Hey, thank you, I appreciate the feedback. I was surprised to see only 3 oz. of hops in an ipa recipe, but upon further review, 1 oz. is reserved for dry hopping. I definitely wont mess with the recipe, this is my first dry hop.

It's Saturday Brewday - Watchya Makin?

Probably not until tomorrow, Northern Brewer Chinook IPA extract kit. All chinook hops. Part of me wants to leave the recipe alone to see how it turns out, but another part of me wants to add 1oz. crystal hops near the end of the boil. Thoughts about this? Cheers!:mug:

moving a batch of beer prior to bottling

And, another thing... Not to sound like a paranoid freak, but depending on the coolness of PD, that could possibly be illegal transportation...Any Lawyers (******* you) in the house?

what temperature should my beer ferment at?

I ferment my extract ale kits in my basement, which maintains around 63f-67f year round, and the 2 batches that I have completed have been fine. I have another that I was worried about, but a gravity reading yesterday (10 days in primary) told me that I'm probably ok. There are quite a few...

Advice on extract recipe for 80 Acre/Hoppy Wheat type beer

I am a total noob, and only use extracts, but I'll share this: My first 5 gal batch was Northern Brewer "American Wheat Beer" (they didn't call it ale). You mentioned hops, and this worked out pleasingly for me. I had columbus hops on hand, and used them. The original recipe called for: 1...

    Mr Beer

Brewing one's first beer can be quite intimidating. It seems like there is a lot of stuff to keep track of, a lot of equipment to get just right, a lot of .... ya ya ya. Mr. Beer. It is going to make you 2 gallons of beer, and as you've seen, it wasn't that bad. (process wise) As an...
