    Hello Fellow Washingtonians!!

I have been into Mash several times. As you say, not a lot of selection. His prices are a little higher than some others, but he is a very helpful and convenient. He also does classes. I think he only charges $10-20. Haven't attended any, but I imagine Jason is a good instructor.

    BIAB Mash Out and Sparge

On my next batch I will try it like you suggest. The only thing different is heating the sparge water to 170. As suggested by a previous post in this thread, it might get me a couple points of efficiency vs. hot tap water.

    BIAB Mash Out and Sparge

Thanks for the feedback. I might tinker with the process, but it really was pretty easy and I am happy with efficiency in the high 70's. I love not having to deal with DME and brewing 5+ gallons for $20. Now I just have to wait 6 weeks. :(

    BIAB Mash Out and Sparge

I just took a gravity reading before pitching yeast. 77% efficiency. :)

    BIAB Mash Out and Sparge

I just finished my first BIAB. Due to size of pot (8 gal) and stove I chose to sparge. I changed my plan a little while mashing and I hope I didn't mess it up...I am not too worried, but want to do it right in the future. Here is what I did: 1. 5 gallons water & grains at 152 for 60+...

5 Gal BIAB on Glass/Ceramic Cooktop?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I'll play it safe and sparge. That will keep the stove top water volume to below 5.5 gallons. My aluminum pot doesn't weigh a lot, so my total weight will be about 50 lbs or just a hair over. I will be sure not to slide it around either.

5 Gal BIAB on Glass/Ceramic Cooktop?

I am going to try my first BIAB today and have a question about cooktops. My grain bill will allow my to do a traditional BIAB in my 8.5 gallon pot (just barely). My range has a very powerful "turbo boil" burner. I have boiled 3.5 gallons of water quickly in the past, so I think my stove...

    Fast Turnaround Beer?

Thanks for the help guys. It sounds like it will be tough to make it work. It is not a big deal if I decline, so I think I will say no this time.

    Fast Turnaround Beer?

My sister in law is getting married in 29 days. I just recieved a request to provide some home brew. Is it possible to brew, ferment, and bottle in 29 days? I am guessing a low gravity beer would be the ticket. I am about to brew an amber with 8.75 lbs of grain. Might that work?

First All Grain & BIAB - Check My Plan Please

Thanks for the help guys. I will increase my trub volume and boiloff as suggested. I think it my be time to just give it a try...

First All Grain & BIAB - Check My Plan Please

I tried to copy and paste a spreadsheet, but it didn't work well. I have attached a scan of my brew plan/recipe. I hope this works. I am only 2 batches into this hobby, but decided to try my hand at ag. I am looking for a little help from you experts. A double check on my process...

    Thinking about trying BIAB...

Thanks for the advice. I bought the turkey fryer and am ready to give it a try. Even if I don't like BIAB, my current "kettle" is only 4 gallons, so either way it was a good purchase. I am pretty happy with the fryer pot. It came with a strainer (or whatever the internal pot with the big...

    Thinking about trying BIAB...

I only have 2 batches under my belt, but I am thinking about trying my hand at BIAB. I did some sparging of grains in my second batch with the help/advice of my local brew supply joint. BIAB seems like a simple way to go AG without breaking the bank. From what I have read on this forum, I...

    Name That Hops Variety

Thanks. I figured it would be difficult to tell. It looks like I will just have to try some in a batch and see what does.

    Name That Hops Variety

I am very new home brewer (just bottled my first batch and have another in primary). My Mom is a pretty avid gardener and planted some hops years ago. She is not a home brewer, she just likes their looks. She told me I could harvest the hops, but she has no idea what variety they are. Can...
