    Scorched Beer

Yeah, I have the High Gravity eBIAB setup. I think it will work really well once I quit scorching the beer. :( Dave has been very helpful. He even offered to replace the element if I can't get it clean. I didn't think that was necessary. It was my mistake, but I appreciate his effort...

    Scorched Beer

It is a 4,500W ultra low watt density element.

    Scorched Beer

I brewed my first ebiab batch and ruined the beer. My element is completely black and the beer tastes like ash. Please help me troubleshoot the cause. I think the most likely problem is that after removing the grains from the mash, I put the basket (bayou classic) back into the pot. I...

Why does foil work better than air lock on starter?

I know that benefit of using foil vs. an air lock is that o2 is allowed into the Erlenmeyer. However, it seems like the Co2 produced by the yeast would produce positive pressure in the flask. It doesn't seem like much O2 would really make it into the flask. I don't have a stir plate, but I...

Source for cheap 30A Eaton BR GFCI breakers

Sigh...just installed a ch 30 amp for my ebiab system. Paid about $90 for the breaker.

picobrew e-biab vs. high gravity biab

I ordered it and added a gfci protected circuit. The system arrived quickly, but the controller didn't function. Dave was very helpful. He thinks it's the sensor cable so I am waiting for a replacement to arrive. A couple observations...I do like the quality of the components. I added a...

    What should I buy next?

I suggest a used chest freezer or fridge, eBay temp controller, and 2 liter Erlenmeyer flask. I got all that for $100 and I believe it has helped me a lot. If you are jonesing to go all grain, you could buy (or make) a bag to do biab.

    Refractometer Problems

I can get the numbers in focus, but the blue line isn't effected by the focus. It is an intermittent problem. Sometimes the blue line is totally crisp, sometimes I am just estimating the og because the line is so blurry. I haven't figured out the common denominator. Based on this thread, I...

    Refractometer Problems

Thanks for the help guys. I will use smaller amounts of liquid, keep the refractometer at "normal" temps, and give it a minute or two to stabilize.

    Refractometer Problems

I am getting inconsistent readings on my ATC refractometer. On my last brew day, I put hot wort on the refractometer and checked the gravity. I then let the refractometer sit for about 1 minute and checked it again. My gravity changed significantly. IIRC, it went from about 1.047 to 1.053...

    Trip to Germany

Thanks for all the great ideas. We will definitely research your ideas. I talked to my dad today. We are already reconsidering Oktoberfest. Neither of us like crowds. Thanks again.

    Gfci breaker

I just purchased an ebiab system from high gravity. I need to replace my breaker with gfci. I have a cutler hammer box. Is there any reason this breaker won't work? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027RTFC8/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    Trip to Germany

I hope this is the right forum for this post... My Dad is interested in visiting Germany. His Grandparents immigrated from their, and he has become friendly with a distant cousin in Germany. He knows my interest in beer, so he has proposed a trip to Germany during Octoberfest. If you...

picobrew e-biab vs. high gravity biab

I decided to go with the high gravity system. I see nothing but positive comments about it (and it's controller). I have also seen that several people use the ebc sv controller for their 3 vessel systems. So I figure I will get the e-biab kit and have the option of converting my 3 vessel...

picobrew e-biab vs. high gravity biab

Thanks sennister. I am leaning back toward the high gravity system. The pico system has a 90 day warranty. I am a little nervous about a touch screen electronic device with only 90 days. Also, I don't really need a touch screen device to tell me when to add hops and do mash steps.

picobrew e-biab vs. high gravity biab

I am planning to purchase one of these systems soon and want to get the opinion of a few others...maybe some owners. you can see the picobrew system here: http://electricbiab.com/ you can see the high gravity system here...

    Advice Needed

Thanks sennister. I have read your posts a couple times and done some searching through the hbt archives. I think I get it now. I think you are suggesting making a gfci extension chord. Essentially, I could unplug my dryer, plug in a cord connected to a spa box. I could then plug my brewing...

    Advice Needed

Thanks. I emailed the electricbiab this morning with some questions. He also sent me a link the the video. I will watch it tonight. Regarding GFCI, if I want to use the same outlet as my dryer, can I just swap the breaker that is already in the panel with a gfci breaker? I would save the...
