    What about acerglyn!?!?!?

I understand what you are talking about had looked into the process a lot before using it. Instead of kill the yeast I could have (should have,I am a little lazy sometimes) said: use Camden Tablets to slow fermentation and Sorbate to protect from oxygenation as it sits and clears until I could...

    What about acerglyn!?!?!?

newguy29: Sorry for the long wait for the reply I have been busy. To kill the yeast I use a combination of Campden tablets and Potassium Sorbate. I do it to keep the sweetness up without having to have a high ABV. Fermenting too long was until it finished fermenting on its own. It was drier...

    What about acerglyn!?!?!?

I made a batch last spring. I tapped a few trees near the house for syrup. I used 5# of Honey and 4# (about of syrup) I can't remember the yeast. It smelled and tasted amazing while fermenting, but I let it ferment to long and it was very dry and tart. When I try again I am going to kill the...

    Tower of Wood Power

After many years of slowly adding parts my tower gravity brew stand is finished. It has a base of about 3ft square and is about 7 feet tall with the HLT on top. The burners are a turkey frier and a modified 3 burner camper stove. It takes about 40 minutes to heat water to 170ish for mash or...

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

After years of brewing I finally finished and used my brew tower for the first time today. All the parts are pieces I have been using and adding to since I started, the last was the HTL with sight glass, thermometer and valve. The Foot print is a little over 3 ft sq. It has about 4 coats of a...

Small pressurized serving vessels - ideas needed

I drilled the hole in the cap for the 6 liter bottle the same size as the hole for the mini-kegs then I used silicone to seal it to the cap.

Small pressurized serving vessels - ideas needed

I made a portable system using the 6 L Tap a Draft bottles and a DIY Connection for gas and beer. The bottles are cheap and the beer tubing is replaceable. I modified plans from http://www.angelfire.com/planet/brewing/Kegerator.htm for mine.

    Fermenter for 2.5 gallon batches

I do 2 Gal batches and use a 2 gallon glass cookie jar I got from Wally World for $10 I think they have gone up since. I put a plastic plate over the top without a blow off tube. I can also put it on my DIY stir plate with a 2in bar when I do 2 gal batches of mead.

Help! My 1y/o kid just shoved a salad tongs into a carboy, backwards.

Use two pieces of cloths hanger wire with u bends on the ends bent up 90 deg. put one on each side. as you pullup the tongs you squeeze them together. If the spring in the tongs is stronger than the wire pulling up might use the sloped sides as mentioned earlier.

Immersion Chiller - sub zero temps?

Brewed yesterday at about 10F in Maine. Chilled by putting the boil kettle with a towel on it in the very large snow pile beside porch. Packed snow around it a few times while I was cleaning up. Cooled in about an hour and my snow pile is much smaller.

Pitch It, Don't Toss It! Using Yeast That's Past It's Prime

Excellent timing on this article. A friend just asked me to brew a kit they bought and never had the time to brew. It was over a year old. I had some hops to add to the older ones, but not the yeast. Followed the process and have very vigorous fermentation after 8 hours. Thanks

Small Batch Fermenter - Brew the World!

I use a similar jar from Walmart that is a little over 2 gallons. If I recall correctly it was $10. I ditched the glass lid and use a plastic plate as the cover. I use it to make mead.

    Hop leaves teared apart

Looks like what the Japanese Beetles did to my beans last summer. I just planted hops this spring in Maine and have not seen any beetles on the hops and only a few beetles on my beans so far.
