Some bottles are better than others

I think I figured this one out while bottling the other day. Because I am bottling from the tap on my fermenter the last couple bottles chug air bubbles which is probably causing oxidation. Next time I will have to be more careful and tilt the fermenter for the last bottles. Thanks guys.

    Low efficiency BIAB

Yes it was way thicker than any mash I have done so next time I think for the big beers I will need to either double up on my LME and use 2 cans instead of one and make up the remainder with grain or I need to find a bigger pot.

    Low efficiency BIAB

Good call. I will definitely keep that in mind next time.

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Just had a bottle after only four days and our tasted good bit had a bit of a funky smell I haven't experienced before. Not necessarily bad but a bit weird. Kind of slightly skunky like fresh marijuana. Could it just be because it is still fermenting in the bottle or does this mean I have a...

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Brought this one to a bring a brew night at the LHBS and our was very well received. This is the best beer I have made to date!

    Low efficiency BIAB

I thought about that but seriously doubt it. I stirred the **** out of it to aerate before taking my sample.

    Low efficiency BIAB

Could it be that the wort I was aiming for was too concentrated? Would ibebetteroff doing more LME and less grain on my bigger beers? I was hoping this method would allow me to make full AG BIAB batches by making an over-concentrated wort and topping up to 19 litres to dilute.

    Low efficiency BIAB

I just brewed a DIPA yesterday as a partial mash BIAB and had surprisingly low efficiency. I mashed 4.2 kg of grain in a 15.2 l pot which was filled to the rim with grain and mash water. The mash was still very wet with no dough balls and I regularly stirred it. I mashed at 67 C with a 75 C...

    American IPA Fresh Squeezed IPA

I should note that I scaled this down to a 19 l batch using BrewMate.

First fruit beer for gf. Help w/ recipe

Turned out to be a very nice beer. It was enjoyed by many and is now nearly gone. It carbonated nicely and had a noticeable apricot flavor that complimented the light bitterness of the Hallertau MF hops. It didn't have much orange or coriander flavor at all. I would definitely make this one...

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Just brewed this today as a partal mash BIAB with one can of light LME and ended up with much better efficiency then I expected. I expected 70% in my brewing software and ended up somewhere near 83% with OG 1.062. I hope it doesn't end up too strong. Also dropped the cap from the yeast...

    Priming with juice

I should note that the purpose of the muslin sack is so I can easily bottle without having to deal with the pulp. I have a 30 l Copper Tun PE fermenter which has a tap at the base which draws from above. It has given me pretty clear beer in the past but I have always strained my wort and dry...

    Priming with juice

Thanks for the advice guys. Hope this works! I have brewed the beer and it smells amazing with the coriander and orange peel and I am debating adding the apricot but it comes at the request of SWMBO so I don't believe I can back out now. SWMBO won't let me buy another fermenter until we have a...

    Primary only vs. secondary

I would say 72 hours is too early to rack to secondary. Better to wait around 6 days to ensure primary fermentation has completed before racking.

    Priming with juice

Thanks for the help guys. I like this idea of using one can of apricot nectar and making up the rest of the sugar with table sugar. I am not able to find apricot extract here in Australia, which I understand people would generally add at bottling, so this is the alternative method I have...

Using a vitamix (blender) to aerate?

I think you are on to something here. I wouldn't go for the shaking paint mixer though. That just has disaster written all over it, plus it is only designed to hold a 1 gallon paint can. With the drill attachment, just make sure you sanitise effectively! Another thing that seems to work fine...
