New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

So as I prepare to brew this recipe on Saturday, I am preparing my water. Using BrunWater and my base profile to start with, I end up with the following : Ca: 114.1 Mg: 21.5 Na: 66.3 SO4: 100.2 Cl: 179.8 Bicarbonate: -7.0 Does this look alright? I wanted to get the Cl and SO4 close to the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Yup, that will do it and combined with flocculant yeast you got a clearer and darker version of this beer. Probably still delicious.

    Water Report and mash PH

Agree with this. I have been using Brunwater for 2 yrs and love it. Also been reading Water for about 2 weeks and it has really opened up my water understanding

What was your recipe again? That looks darker than I would expect. So I am trying to figure out if it was related to grains, yeast or both.

How do the craft breweries heat their equipment?

He does. Also, like someone pointed out, using steam is inherently DANGEROUS. You definitely want to have a good grasp of how it works and all the safety concerns before you start.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Agreed because it's all about getting the pH of the mash down (or up) to the correct range

What's more accurate? How much to add?

I'm not liter literate either, but that was a damn fine example right there. I'm a true believer in the KISS philosophy. Make it consistent and then enjoy the brewing part and learn and fine tune all the other steps.

    Newbie question on mashing

With the other crystal malts in there, you probably don't need a whole pound of CaraPils. 8 or 10 oz always works well in my Pale Ale and IPA recipes.

    Water report help please.

Agree with some key points from above. Water adjustment does depend on beer style. Look into Brunwater. You only need to add Camden if there is chlorine / chloramine in your water.

Size brew kettle for 10 gallon all grain batches,,,

15 gallon will work. 20 is just overkill

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Are you proposing adding yeast at bottling time? Not necessary. Cannot say that I have ever seen or heard of anyone who has done this.

Mash Acidification: Diluting Phosphoric Acid by Weight

Agreed. Safe lab practices will always benefit you.

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Generally speaking it is not a problem. You may not want to use use a yeast from a darker beer to ferment a lighter one. Very good point

Do these batch sparge calculations appear correct? / Recipe question

Wheat is definitely capable of slowing down the sparge for sure. Glad it all worked out though. If it is of any value, I combine my chilling with my cleaning. Put a little PBW or oxyclean in the mash tun / dirty vessels and then fill with the hot water coming from the chiller

    Better Call Saul

Not that I want to see any characters go, but I am hoping that Chuck gets hit by lightning or run over by a electric company truck.
