    Yup and I would add that on 2 occasions I forgot and milled them and I swear that it made the mash even stickier.

    In case you don't WANT to make the blonde to harvest the yeast, just build a multi step starter with the original generation and store half and pitch the other half. That's what I do each time.

    Whirlfloc unnecessary. The only pints with "sludge" are the first 1 or 2 if you keg (and that is still not always) or the last 1 or 2 if you bottle (almost always for me)

    I have simply always done this when I brew. I start the boil after sparging and then leave the pitcher to catch the trickle. After 5 to 10 min or just dump the pitcher into the boil. I usually end up adding around 0.5 to 1 quart. Never really thought about what it added to my efficiency because...

    How to add permanent volume markings to a kettle (illustrated)

    I've brewed 5 batches since I did this and IMO, the markings got better. They darkened up slightly. I never "scrub" the inside of my kettle, especially with anything abrasive.
