How to Tell How Old Hops Are

They don't smell bad but I don't think that's the issue. The issue isn't whether they are good or bad. The issue is the question of the flavor and aroma potency.

How to Tell How Old Hops Are

One of the local homebrew stores sells hops at pretty cheap prices. They sell the 1oz Hopunion packets for $1.39-$1.99. I of course bought a bunch of different varieties and brewed my last 4 batches exclusively with these hops. All 4 batches were American ales with a lot of late addition hops...

Denver/Front Range CMC Group Buy #7

I changed my entry to 0. I will be back in for 100 lbs if someone can bring it back to CO Springs. I don't ever go up to Denver.

too late to save the beer from what? Sounds like it's done fermenting...Take a gravity reading to make sure.

Yeah, that's only 1.77 12 oz beers per person.

    Brewing for a wedding

No worries. Personally, I don't think that brewing it yourself is feasible with the resources you currently have. If you decide to get that Spiedel fermenter, though, don't delay. Those things just recently came back into stock and they go incredibly quick. I can't help you with tennant...

Good point. How many people are going to be at this wedding?

    Brewing for a wedding

Now that I understand that you're looking for 1 bbl of each style...... I would advise against doing six 5 gallon batches or even three 10 gallon batches for the sake of consistency and sanity. But if you really want to do it on your system, you will have to brew at least 3 times to yield 31...

    Brewing for a wedding

It's going to be hard to brew a 15 gallon batch with just a keggle without brewing a higher gravity beer and diluting to desired volume. While this is possible, I imagine it would be challenging to really nail a recipe on your first go around. You don't want everyone at the wedding drinking...

    True or False-Grain Crush Question

True...I'm still interested in the theory though. His statement alludes that tannin extraction is resultant from a factor outside of pH and alkalinity which is the central question.

    True or False-Grain Crush Question

Interesting...I've never considered pressure. So are you saying that tannins will be extracted when the grain bed is subject to pressure EVEN if pH and alkalinity are under 6.0?

    True or False-Grain Crush Question

If you're going to select "False" in the poll, I think you have to give us your point of view.:mug:

    Brewing for a wedding

One bbl=31 gallons. One keg=15.5 gallons. Does your buddy want a keg or a bbl of each beer? What does your system consist of? Be specific with the size of your mash tun and boil kettle.

    Great write up! Thanks!

    True or False-Grain Crush Question

True or false.... A grist that is crushed extremely fine with shredded husks will not leach tannins as long as pH, alkalinity, and temperature are at the appropriate levels.
