That will work. Here is another option for a bit less. These are popular and work well. https://www.amazon.com/Inkbird-Itc-308-Temperature-Controller-Thermostat/dp/B01MDSWXY4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481132334&sr=8-1&keywords=inkbird+itc-308

Emergency - gotta go...but my beer?

Do not raise the temp to rush it. Let it ferment slow and cool. If you have to head out of town no worries. It will be finished when you get back. A couple weeks or longer in primary are not going to hurt it :)

    Just got my grain mill!

I am lucky enough to have a homebrew shop right down the road. I typically just by a sack of pale ale malt when needed. I store it in food grade 5 gallon buckets with lids that have a rubber gasket. Bucket and lid is around $5.50 at Lowes (yes they have plain white food grade buckets in the...

    2 Yeast Packets?

No need to waste a second pack of yeast if you are making an appropriate size starter. One of the primary reasons to make a starter is to build up the cell count. ;)

    Best Way To Control Temp

There are a ton of ways to keep cool or warm. Some work better than others. I have tried most of the methods you will find in the forum, from swamp cooler to actual cooler with ice blocks and water, heat belts, and many more. In my opinion a fridge/freezer with a dual stage temp controller is...

    Brew day box

I try to store all my essentials in my equipment when not in use. I use a small plastic bucket for all of my small basic brew day essentials. Timer, thermometer, grill lighter, water additions, spices, ect. The bucket along with my oven mits I use for brewing fit right into the kettle I use to...

Mangrove Jack West Coast so slow.

I gave this yeast a shot a couple times in both a pale ale and an IPA. Long lag times and not as clean as other west coast ale yeast strains. The IPA was fermented at 60F had odd belgian esters almost like they packaged the wrong yeast in the packet. After trying a few varieties of the mangrove...

    Oxi Clean for Homebrewing?

this is a really old thread.... :) The crystallization and clinging to the side of everything can be caused by hard water. I have really hard water and if I run out of salt in my softener many cleaning detergents give this result. I had it happen last week with oxyclean, cascade dishwasher...

    freezing hop pellets

In a freezer that is part of a frost free fridge they will last 6 months to a year before they start to degrade if vac sealed. If not vac sealed the quality starts to drop pretty fast. At least that has been my experience. A few months in the freezer part of my my kitchen fridge and I have...

    Ferment underpressure in sanke keg

Nice setup! The larger commercial breweries ferment under pressure. Applying your logic, it would explain why I pick up sulfur in some lagers like budweiser.
