    Planning - fig wine

So true. I was opening bottles of cucumber/basil wine to toss from a few years back when I decided to give it a try. Tastes like 7up/sprite, flat but very smooth. I won't be making it again but it's amazing what some age does.

    Planning - fig wine

Thank you so much for sharing. Please let us know how it turns out as there's not a lot of fig wine/mead info out there. I bet you could get a beer growler super cheap at goodwill store there in Oregon for you 1/2ish gallon.

    Foraged Berry Identification

strawberry-alexandria-alpine You might want to grab a pack of these seeds. They're very tasty, prolific and they self seed but I haven't found them to be problematic in the right location.

Fig Stout ... thoughts as to the fig addition .

This applies to winemaking YMMV but you had me at "figs". If you add fruit to primary it becomes part of the overall/partner flavor. If added to secondary it becomes more of a background flavor. This is according to joeswine. LET SAY I WAS GOING TO MAKE A BLACKBERRY PINO NIOR,THE FIRST...

Over sweetened my sweet red wine, any ideas to help?

I've read that you can add more acid. I think it said your tastebuds perceive it to be less sweet. Personally I would blend with a less sweet wine or other beverage of choice. You could do this before drinking instead of bottling. I was going to toss an overlay sweet Yuzu kit wine and...

This is not beer ... So what is it?

This brave man ferments any non toxic veg/weed or flower. He is however making a higher alcohol country wine with good results. Maybe you can modify his recipes. chickweed-wine-im-going-for-it.77661

This is not beer ... So what is it?

Maybe include fermented foods in your search. Something along the lines of Tepache but with sugar and herbs/strawberrys instead of pineapple.https://youtu.be/jUa6SgFlgX0

    20 $ for 6 gal cider kits

fluketamer, The note just said the yeast was miscoded not expired. Great suggestions. Thank you. My temps are a steady 70 as we've radiant slab floors. Very little fluctuation. To warm for a lager tell fall. My husband did gift me with a keg system. I haven't bothered to learn how to use it as...

    20 $ for 6 gal cider kits

To be clear, your lager kits Didn't come with a lager yeast inside the kit? Possibly miss coded but still viable. I don't remember if the yeast pack was marked one way or the other on the wheat.

    20 $ for 6 gal cider kits

My second set of kits arrived yesterday. They had yeast packs taped to the package. The enclosed note said that the expiration date on the yeast packaging is wrong. To ensure satisfaction, they sent a correctly coded yeast. The wheat that I started with the original yeast is still purring...

    20 $ for 6 gal cider kits

I bought several expired kits from goodwill when I first got into wine making. I needed the 1 gallon jugs from several brookland brew's and the lg mouth fermentor of the mr beer. I'm embaressed to admit I brewed those puppies. The kits were intact/sealed but I replaced the yeast with a...

    20 $ for 6 gal cider kits

I really appreciate the details guys. I did 1 can kits about 20 years ago but I think they all needed to be brewed back then. I've done a few partial mash kits lately for my beer drinkers but honestly I've not been to impressed with my results. I did order another round while on sale to...

raisin or? additions to a dubbel xmas beer

Thank you! I'm not committed to the raisins. It was on the kit recipe guidelines. 2lbs is a heck of a lot more than 4 ozs. Greatly appreciated! Think I'll skip the peppercorns that was also the kits 2nd suggestion to add with nutmeg.

raisin or? additions to a dubbel xmas beer

Greetings. Getting close to transferring Binkys dubbel down Partial mash kit to secondary. To get a seasonal beer they suggest adding spices, specifically 1 cinnamon stick, 2 clove and 2lbs of raisins in secondary. I was going to possibly add 2 oz's of peppercorns as well. I was concerned...

    Tweaking kit advice please

Thank you so much for the details. It's gonna take me a few reads to digest it all. I have a few 3 gallon carboys and I love your idea about splitting the batches. Please feel free to post away. Cheers!

    Tweaking kit advice please

I didn't realise they didn't need brewing when I purchased. These are like really easy wine kits. Apologies, I have a few more questions and can't find the right thread. You're going to short the water to 4.5 gallons on a 6 gallon kit. Does that not throw the balance/hop ratio off? I have...

    Tweaking kit advice please

Mine are arriving today. The wine labels were 50 cents for 30 labels so I stocked up. It's like a side of free beer. Lots of it. I like the idea of mixing the dextrose and DME. That stuff gets expensive. Was there an expiration date on kits? :mug:.
