    Batch Sparging. What's your efficiency?

I do not agree. A batch sparge of equal volumes will rinse close to all sugars. The more you sparge the more the sugars dilute, in the beginning BIAB was said to be less efficient but today BIAB brewers report above 80%. Yes with a different crush... But sparging will always dilute even when...

    Grain Mill recommendations

I have a cranandstein 2s. Gap setting is a slep but if you stick to barley once set you are good. I power it with a old 550w variable speed makita drill. I start the drill before adding grain to the hopper. AND slow is better, if speed is too high it will not pull the grain through.

    Infection/off flavor

Soap, clean with something else, hot water goes a long way. Cider, check amount of simple sugars BUT time also help if it taste like apples. Vinegar, check fruit flies.

    BeerSmith BIAB w/ "sparge" question

You can it 2 ways: 1) set your mashtun volume as full volume or all your water. Beersmith will not know you are short on space and your "sparge" will be included in full volume mash. May be a bit off but it is only beer. 2) set tun volume as actual. Enter your sparge volume as mash tun...

    What are your nostalgic foods?

Ox tail, my father had a colleague that drove regularly 200km with instructions that my mother do ox tail for dinner. Liver in caul fat cooked on open fire. Sump (cracked corn) and beans, an African dish. Grew up with lots of beans and maize but always separate. But in my late teens did a...

    Brown Ale Questions

Honey loose taste quick, a speciality malt may be better. Brown sugar in my beer, never! But others will disagree.

    Distillation equipment

If you could dublicate the coller on wich the mastun sits (without the side ports) and seal it well you could mount a column on it. While your investment into the rig is substantial I would say look into a plated column if you will buy. Else a packed column if you will build.

    Wort Watered Down, Beer Ruined?

Maybe wrong wording on the 'worth it', No 'worth' is the right word. As stated I am not into big beers.. I do not drink for effect BUT a beer must be balanced. Reducing gravity as the op will end up doing will also reduce taste and balance.

    My “Sumerian” Ale

Real bread is not made with eggs. Eggs does help quick breads but it make it more like cake. Bread should be made with yeast or in Sumatran contex with a sour dough starter. so I am told

What book is on your nightstand? Readers!

Thomas Pakenham a Brit wrote a book on the Boer war. Title is the Boer war. I am a Afrikaans South African and found the book pro Boer and descriptive and after I read it I understand why my grand parents was so against people like Rodes, Milner and Kitchener.
