    Perlick 425SS vs 525SS

I have the newer Perlicks and I love em. Never having a stuck faucet is something you tend to take for granted. :) -Me

Incomplete fermetation = hot alcohol taste?

Yes, give it time to age some. 'Bigger' beers like stouts take a little more time to mature and Im sure the hotness will subside with age. I dont think a lack of fermentation is why its hot, its just young. :) (The younger ones tend to be a little hotter) The beers that is... ;) -Me PS - I...

What beer(s) have you lost interest in since homebrewing?

I have never been a BMCer and in the earlier days I used to enjoy Guiness, (dare I say) Killians, and when Sam Adams came out with their brews I enjoyed them regularly. Since I have started homebrewing, I have pretty much only bought - Stone IPA, DFH60, Stone Ruination, Long Hammer (in a...

Is a 15 Quart Brew Pot large enough

Fermcap drops are almost a MUST for those using smaller kettles too. You can boil more wort vigorously without having to worry about a boilover. -Me

    dry hopping

I use a 2" herb ball and I always dry hop in the keg. Just tie a piece of dental floss to it and dangle the ball in the keg. (Pressurize the keg) and let it dry hop for the DH schedule. Some people just drop the ball into the keg and never remove it. I have never had a problem with the hops...

    Infection or not?

You wont know if your first batch is TRULY messed up until its run its gamut of brewing cycles. *Cough*3weeksinthebottleregardlessofwhatthehecktheprimarylookslike*Cough* Chances are you are going to love this batch and look back on this and laugh. I am still amazed by things that I see happen...

Wort took WAY too long to cool PLEASE HELP

Reeeeeelax. I had a batch of beer that took almost that long too. I ended up pitching the yeast too hot (and killed them). Nothing happened for 48 hours, and I pitched more. It went and came out estery cause of the stressed out yeasties but its mellowed with time. Im giving it some age and Im...

Im bored, I thought I would share...

Im originally from AZ and those bugs were abundant. They are dark green, and have a shiny green abdomen. We used to catch them and tie some thread around their thorax so we could 'fly' them. We were easily entertained when I was a kid. -Me

Im bored, I thought I would share...

Oh no, it was on MY familys website. My wife and I were sitting in the back yard one morning when I still smoked cigarettes. (You can hear the neighbor mowing his lawn in the background) My wife is a photographer, so anytime anything nominal happens, she grabs a camera. This time it happened to...

And so it begins..........from Addison, IL

One thing I can suggest from the get go is a BIGGER POT (or kettle) you can always boil smaller batches in a bigger pot, and going to a full boil even if you never go AG is bonus. And if you DO get addicted to the hobby, chances are a bigger boiling vessel will be on your list. :) -Me

I was looking at stuff my wife had been posting on our family website, and I came across this little gem of life happening that made me laugh. Its not really 'scat' is it? I mean, this is nature that is doing it :p -Me

What are some of the mistakes you made...where your beer still turned out great!

I seem to make a mistake or 2 every single brewday. Its not intentional, it happens. I think I have YET to have the 'perfect' brewday where everything goes off without a hitch. Thus far I dont think I have had a batch that I didnt want to drink. This weekend consisted of my very first ever FWH...

Off Flavored/Bad Tasting Beer Appreciation Thread

Well, someone did mention something like beer flavored tits once. I was intrigued... Yes, I have my daughter help me during brewdays as well. Heck, she was helping me weigh and seal my baggies of hops that I bought in bulk. Im not sure if this discussion has been 'formally' had. I think that...

Off Flavored/Bad Tasting Beer Appreciation Thread

I must say that I am now a fan of my beers that taste like total ass, but still resemble beer. Its not necessarily that I *enjoy* the off flavoredness. The overpowering esteryness, the mouth numbing band-aid flavoring, the 'hotness' of a young beer. ITS JUST WHEN I THINK A BATCH IS...

Beer from fridge to room temperature repeatedly: bad?

I know that the beer when going from a cold glass from the cold tap to my warm bellah definitely has an effect. Whether its negative or not depends on the amount. -Me

Beer from fridge to room temperature repeatedly: bad?

I dont think that you are going to have an issue with this. I have repeatedly cooled and removed my kegged beer from rotation and I notice no ill effects. In fact, it almost ALWAYS seems that my beer is always better by the time I get back to it. Age is age is age when it comes to beer (IMO)...
